I am in the process of finishing up my portable Pimeta. I wanted to try out the AD823 in it. It is only available in a dual configuration. What do people typically do in situations like this for the ground channel? Can I just use a different opamp in the ground channel? How does this affect the sound? The only single opamps I currently have are OPA134 and OPA227.

Thanks,
Garron

Yes, you can use a different opamp for the ground channel, but you'll want to experiment with what gives you the best sound. For the live channel, the 134 is a good opamp - it's the single version of the dual opamp that Headroom use in all but their Max modules. I don't know it's performance on the ground channel though.

An AD823 for L/R and a OPA134 for ground is the combination that I've found I like best. It sounds lively and detailed without being too fatiguing.... I'd recommend it.

Putting the OPA227 in the ground channel wouldn't be a bad plan, either. It should have a smidge more snap and verve. In some systems, this will be grating, so for that the OPA134 would be the better choice.
