I've now tried these two opamps (both are JN's), comp pin out, in a closed loop with a discrete buffer in the ground channel. L & R are just buffers. I started with AD829, and I find the sound to be extremely clean and transparent. Where is the coloration? The sound is so clean it's almost annoying. I think I have to listen a lot more to hear it's character. Maybe it's a bit too "nice", like I found AD746.
I was surprised to find AD744 aggressive, but it is compared to AD829. There's a touch of sibilance and a more forward presentation. If I only had listened to AD744, I would probably never have found it aggressive. I had almost no burn in time, maybe it smoothens in time.
Both of the amps above make me think of MiniMoog - fast, clean, warm, presence, distinct etc. The best I've heard to this date.
I'm waiting for two AD744 SOIC, to try for L/R in some amp (don't know what yet). But with my experience above, I would rather have AD829's. Maybe next time.
