Well I said that I would post an update when I got custom tips made for the T-15's.
The process was no where as much hassle as I expected.
Not least because an audiologist who is an agent for ACS lives just down the road from me and was happy for me to visit and dribble on his carpet!
Some years ago I had tips done for the IE8's but they were not successful despite numerous attempts and two different audiologist. ACS could not have done more to try and help. It was me who gave up.
Anyway this time success. Matt took open mouth impressions (hence the dribbling!) which seems to have made all the difference.
The little silicone tips fit into my ears. I am aware that they are there but being soft silicone they are very comfortable.
It is a joy to have tips that are a perfect fit for my ears after messing about with many different tips, including Comply, trying to get a good seal.
On to how the T-15's sound.
The short answer is a bit bright for my tastes.
All the frequencies are present and unlike the IE8's the T-15's sound accurate and truthful.
They are very precise but IMO not very engaging.
However. I found a solution.
I am using a Digizoid Zo2 bass enhancer.
Until now something like this would be anathema to the purist in me who doesn't even like EQ.
The important thing is though that the device makes the music enjoyable to listen to.
It may be that the Zo is sitting on the sound and flattening the treble but I don't mind.
Strangely it brings the sound of my set up back to somewhere near where I started withe the IE8's!
All be it with much more detail and energy to the sound.
All in all. I cannot recommend ACS custom tips highly enough. I am very tempted by their full customs but a bit uneasy about committing all that money when I am not completely sold on the sound of the T-15's.
The Digizoid is not a device that I would normally recommend and it may prove that after time I get fed up with it's effect but at the moment it is enabling me to enjoy my music.
Which is what it is all about.
