Acoustic crossfeed?

I've just read on a Russian audio forum about some experiments with an acoustic crossfeed for headphones - cheap and easy, by connecting left and right headphones with a plastic tube. By changing the tube length one can adjust the delay time in the crossfeed, and by changing the tube material and diameter - frequency response. The effect claimed to be a "spectacular" one. I am going to try it one day when I'll have spare time and some headphones I can spare. Did anybody else here try this kind of experiment? Is it a known idea?

That is so very Russian. Innovative and cheap.
