I had a discussion with my father today on the merits of Acker Bilk.
My opinion is that personally I would not class him as a proper jazz man in the sense that say Miles Davis/Coltrane/Brubeck fit into the jazz circles.
I understand that Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball and Chris Barber are classed as TRAD JAZZ here in the UK but can it really be taken seriously and ranked alongside the traditionally accepted greats like Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Coltrane et al?
So Acker Bilk..... Bearded Fool or Musical Genius?
