You had me at Goldfrapp! Good to see her mentioned, Seventh Tree is an AMAZING album. I liked Goldfrapp alright before, but after Seventh Tree, I love her. Amazing voice.

future sound of london - dead cities

don't let the first few technoid, run-dmc sampled tracks fool you though - it's actually more of a classical album, seems to be telling a story of urban tension & decay, an emotional soundtrack of sorts, takes some influences from vangelis / bladerunner (already mentioned in this thread)

This thread should be more genre-specific. Otherwise, it's meaningless. People who like Boney M can absolutely live without Satyricon

A few guitar heroes for the list:

Steve Morse: High Tension Wires
. Steve's first solo album and an incredibly diverse palette of electric and acoustic tunes from classical to shred to fusion. This is an album that I never grow tired of listening.

Steve Morse is the winner of Guitar Player magazine's Best Guitar Player overall for 5 consecutive years and a Hall of Famer. He is one of John Petrucci's (Dream Theater) major influences.

Extreme: Pornograffitti
Extreme: III Sides to Every Story.

These two albums showcase Nuno Bettencourt's finest playing. Tasty, funky hard rock, with some great Queen/Beatlesque harmonies and great songwriting. Stellar rock efforts of the 90s.

And my all-time favorites:

Ozric Tentacles. British space rock band, and inspiration for my screenname

Hawkwind type psychedelia, with guitar and synth and flute spacey elements. A treat for the ears. Former members Joey Hinton and Merv Peppler went on to form one of the seminal and influential electronica acts, Eat Static.

Ozric Tentacles: Arborescence
Ozric Tentacles: Spirals in Hyperspace
Ozric Tentacles: Erpland

Alright here goes nothing.

All of the following:
Cream, Bruce Springsteen (except Magic), Steely Dan, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, Dire Straits, Nils Lofgren, Massive Attack, SRV, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd.

And Muse - H.A.A.R.P, all the other albums are over compressed garbage but the live record is very enjoyable.

I am sure I missed a lot of greats just a quick list.

Not that they will have the greatest audio quality...but I have recently started appreciating 60s recordings. Instruments seem to have more space and of course the mixes and pans are so different than todays.
