Well I am one step from ordering a modified Supratek Sauvignon http://www.supratek.biz/preamp.htm with headphone output at 300 ohm for matching my hd650. I will combine it with a stello DAC 220 MKII. I am using equinox cable for my headphones. Trully world class system.. The whole system price will be around 6000 dollars... I am so excited... I just wanted to share my excitment with you !!!

I know its crazy... The matter is that I try to find the absolute sound. I bet a system like that will produce an overall better sound than the one of electrostatics (e.g. omega 2). I haven't heard the orpheous system but I believe, with a descent amplification, it will be possible the senns to beat a system with omega 2 and SR 007, at least marginally.

You won't know till you hear them back to back  Don't diss a headphone that starts out at $1500 and scales like mad also...

I really would like to see what you can work with HD650 there, that is a fairly unique system.

People say the O2s scale like mad but I have yet to hear an amp where they reach said level. In fact Spritzer and Carl believe (I think) that such an amp has not yet been built anywhere. I thinkkk best you can do with current in existence amps is ES-1? Or maybe some speaker amp with the Illusion box? Ohwell, I'd like to hear an O2 through my ES-1 and see how it sounds.

The HD650s definitely scale like mad though ;p Or perhaps I should say HD600s? I think its a toss up due to taste but I think it is easier for the HD650s to become boomy with the wrong sort of amplification.

I kindaaa question whether or not HD650s can reach their pinnacle sound with a tubed amp. Of course that's just my take on the HD650 sound and what perfection sounds like ;p Of course since apparently a tube amp cano sund like a solid state amp and vice version definitely seems possible.

Maybe Ironeisnna lives close because I'd definitely be interested in checking out that amp when its done ;p

From everything I've read from knowledgeable headphone enthusiasts a balanced HD650 rig with the right amplification could be the ultimate in listening experiences. I say this based on some things Hirsch and a few other members have said. These guys have heard just about everything made and I respect their judgment, experience and knowledge. I don’t think a single ended rig can come close to what they were describing. But it would probably require a fully balanced system.

Otherwise it’s my rig.

Yeah fully balanced in my experience is a necessity for HD650s but it definitely can sound amazing. It can compete with anything under the 2k headphone range except for perhaps the HP1000/he60/O2 properly amped... the Edition 9 is impressive but I am not really convinced that it will scale as well. L3K is probably a bit beyond the HD650s reach depending on your tastes.

interesting looking amp. think it will sound better than say a Cary 300SEI.

Check out computer audio section.

Or jusy get a Benchmark DAC1...it solves almost all digital problems without the need for $1500 cables.

It has loads of information! I am currently using foobar with flac and asio... I really wanted iTunes to have the same sound quality though. It has a marvelous user interface and song organisation. I was thinking of creating a mini player consisting of a mac mini and a 7" fouldable touch screen ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Thermaltake-A2...QQcmdZViewItem ) mounted in the rack, running full screen cover flow... Yet again I don't know ... maybe its just my imagination but I think foobar sounds a little better.

I think, when it has to do with tube amps, The better way is the unbalanced one... I would like a slight coloration of the sound (to the warm side).Nothing exceptional... just a sliiiiight one! I dont think that the perfect music system necessary means the most "clean" one. I prefer musicality over clearness. I am also a vinyl fan so you can imagine my tastes

Wow- “I would like a slight coloration of the sound”? and “I am currently using foobar with flac”

Those statements and “ultimate headphone setup” are mutually exclusive. You’ll never have a world class headphone system using a PC as a source. And a single ended rig will never compete against a balanced rig.

And iTunes (?) I almost spit my coffee out laughing reading that statement. Are you just spending money for the sake of it or do you really want “the ultimate headphone setup”?
