About the Rio Karma

I use mine everyday on my 2 hour (one way) train commute with UE Super.fi 3. I have mp3, ogg and flac files on mine. I only put flac files on it when I'm too lazy to convert to ogg. I did have to change the hard drive on mine - but that was my fault. (hint - don't slam it on a table in a fit of anger).

The only player I can think of that's better is iRiver iHP-120 but only with RockBox installed.

I'm a huge Karma fan. One thing I would watch out for is the battery life. If you assume it has all original parts, that battery could be anywhere from 3-5 years old.

Probably worth asking the seller what kind of battery life he gets with it now. If it's really bad, you could end up spending more for a new battery.

Having said that: It's still one of my all time favorite gadgets, and there quite a few guides out there for modding it for larger hard drives and flash storage.

If you're fairly handy and don't mind spending some extra scratch later on, go for it.

If you wind up getting it, pop it open, replace the battery and replace that puny 20GB drive with an 80GB drive.

Old players are hot in their level of moddability.
