Well I shot myself in the foot really good today and melted down my OS on my Imac. I installed the beta of a dual boot app at the apple site and tried to install a copy of xp to use some software I have and now I get the black screen that tells me to insert a bootable disc. I am screwed as I can't find my dvd that came with the Imac so I think i have to buy a new copy of OS X and Ilife. I hosed all my photos and me itunes library ouch.
Well I hope the fresh install of OS X gets me up and running thankfully it's a heck of alot less to buy apple os software than microsoft.

If osx is half as intelligent as windows your files aren't gone. Either boot off of a linux cd and copy your files over or put the hard drive as a slave in another machine and do it.

Good luck, I hate it when stuff like that happens.

The lesson learned here kiddies is to invest in an external hard drive or at least make optical back ups. At least you got lucky OP.
