Hello... just to tell you, I'm totally new at buying audio equipment... much like most of the dudes here that come for help here .

Anyways, I have 200 dollars to spend on earphones.. I've been looking at Shure E4C's and Etymotic ER6i's.... but I ruled out Etymotic since the wires seems to be prone to breaking and such.

I'm looking for earphones that sounds great playing metal/rock music and are not headphones; they need to be low profile. I don't care if they're IEM or not, they just need to fit the budget + sound great.

Using a 80gb Ipod Video as my MP3 player if it affects anything.

Futuresonic Atrio M5's, I've heard a lot of good things about these, you can find them on ebay for about 150

i just got ety-er4p for $173 on amazon. Best money I've spent so far on a pair of IEMs the detail is amazing. the bass will be sufficient trust me.

I would rule out the er4's. I have both the p's and the s's. They sound great but not so much for rock/metal (more metal) unless you listen to black metal and want a more "nekro" sound. As for the cable I've had no problems except the insulation of the right phone of the p's seems to be sliding down, but seeing as i got them that way 6 months ago and haven't had any problems it doesn't bother me (no they were not new).

mm, Shure e4c's are still in the lead... I don't need isolation, just some good sounding earphones.

E4c has been around for a while. Can't really go wrong with that one. Do read the threads on the M5 though, that seems to be the hype/favorite IEM these days.

Mmm, so it's now between: UE's Super.fi 5's, Shure e4c's... and Mylar X3's. heh.

I'm gonna look into them more.
