This is something I've been asked a few times and I'll just lay out the approximate dimensions of the A900 for anyone who's considering these as 'portable' phones and are worried about how they look. I have advised against it, even though I do something similar infrequently... but I know that some people want to do it anyway.

The phones protrude approximately 40mm (1.6") outwards.
The earcups are 110mm (4.4") wide/tall.
The headband loop reaches an apex of 180mm (7.1") height when measured from the middle of your ear.

So, draw yourself a circle 110mm wide, imagine it sticking out 40mm from your head. Then hold a ruler at the 180mm mark and place that against your ear canal, look in a mirror and see how high the end of the ruler is above your head. Then look at a picture of the A900 front on and work your dimensions in to the picture.

I almost guarantee that most Caucasian 'pinheads' will laugh uncontrollably to themselves and shelve plans for 'portable' use.

I agree.

I just received mine today, and I bought it to use at my computer (to block out some fan noise) and outside on my porch (to block out the neighbors). If I were planning on using them "portably," just taking one look at them would have made me kick that plan into a bucket. They make my SR80 look like a pair of phones for small babies.

IIRC, their dimensions are same, though A500 is bit lighter than A900.

thanks, I'll probably end up with a pair of AT cans in a few months for my home rig.

Ha, as they may not be truely portable I actually had them on at my library (like I said I wouldn't in a previous thread) while cramming for a test on yesterday. Granted I was in the back corner, and granted I really don't care how people think I look and most people wouldn't disturb a 230lb jock in the corner of the library to tell him he looks like an idiot.

Then again, I was enjoying my music and wouldn't have heard them if they did say anything. I also made sure not to break them out of my bag till I got down and seated, no way in hell would I think about walking to the library with those things on
