= period that I will be sans headphones while they are repaired.

In the interim, I plan to a] throw something/someone through a window and b] use my amp as an expensive paperweight.

(Sorry, just venting where I think people can understand the annoyance).

Hey, I feel for you, man..

I waited almost 3 months for mine to be built and posted while my new source sat in front of me with no headphone jack...

If it helps, you'll surely appreciate the music even more after the long, hard wait....

Thanks Ipodlounge. BTW, I've been to the Malaga and Marbella region of Spain. Beautiful piece of the earth.

Talked to the technician and he said that he actually found a problem in the left driver of my Beyerdynamic DT770's. I agonized over my cans for pretty much a month and the problem was always in the right driver. I swapped channels on my player to ensure that it was indeed the right driver. The technician said he found the impedance of the left ear cup to be slightly lower (246 ohm) than the right (250 ohm).

I didn't quite understand his testing methods, but he said he basically cranked the headphones and said that he found clipping on the left, not right driver.

This obviously was quite disconcerting because I sent them in for repairs specifically because of the right driver.

Does this sound right to you guys?

He has to order in replacement diaphragms from Beyerdynamic in Germany, which is going to eat up a lot of time. When he gets them, he's going to swap out the left driver and test the headphones again. If he notices the problem I was describing in the right earcup, he'll replace that too. The last thing I want is to not have any headphones for what will be a month and a half and then not even get the problem I was having fixed.

I think if it were me and the cost was not absolutely prohibitive, I would just have him change out both of them and get the phones back in tip-top shape guaranteed...

The headphones are still under warranty. I think I'm going to have him replace both drivers even if he didn't find a problem with the right one. That's the reason why I sent them in, I don't want to get them back after waiting so long and then have the same problem there.

I'd definately take that route, especially if they're under warranty. Perhaps he's just not hearing what you are..

Maybe he put the headphones reversed on his head?

this would explain a lot (unfortunately also his level of knowledge...

You think that sucks?

About six months ago, I had my entry audiophile system together:

NEC Multispin 6Xe CD-ROM
Muse 2 PLUS DAC
Emmeline HR-2 headamp
ER-4S

Then, my ER-4S goes dead in the right earpiece. DAMMIT!!!
So, I replace the filter in that earpiece... Still, no sound!!!
I arrange to send them back to ER and I then do so...

Three weeks later they are back with a little note attached:

"Ear wax in right earpiece -- replaced filter. All is fine, now"

!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!

I replaced the filter in the WRONG earpiece and all was nought.

I was sans headphones for three weeks for absolutely NO REASON.

But yours is definitely worse than mine...

This is what's worrying me the most. I was told by Beyerdynamic in the USA that this distributor was equally competant at dealing with repair issues. The way this guy described the testing procedure wasn't particularly reassuring that it was a scientific process.

well I know how you feel. If its any consolation I've been waiting for a pair of Sennheiser 595's since the end of February here in Australia and just when things were getting close the factory gets burnt down and now the waiting game continues
