I want to confess that I admire and am jealous of people that find opportunity in what they enjoy like Ray Samuels and Jan Meier. I love listening to music because it allows me to daydream about the opportunity found in places where people gather to share in something they enjoy. It keeps me jealous of the people that get to do what they love and make these devices that give many joy and the maker success. It does make me happy to know that we are all not purely struggling just to live and thankful that many have an opportunity to pursue such interests. Really, I'm jealous. I don't think enough people get to use much of the knowledge they gained from curiosity in the pursuit of happiness, if only everyone could be so blessed.

I wonder how I forgot Vinnie and Ken? I'm a proud satisfied customer of theirs also.

I was just thinking yesterday how I envy these guys for being able to pursue a career in what they love . . . audio.

Although, admittedly I don't really envy Ken at ALO as much(and all other cable makers). Making cables all day seems to me as being boring x10, but to each his own I guess.

lol - true, cable making doesnt sound very glamarous, i guess what i meant was that to have the knowledge to be able to turn your hand to making a delciously great sounding cap based dock and experimenting with different materials etc

i though of him, as i am wanting to embark on a little project and i am having to contact people like him and others to see whats what and would this work, if only i had their kowledge i could keep myself amused all day building things

bring on the matrix style of d/loading knowledge programmes into the brain

I agree. Right now, my school and family require my attention for a short time. I think many people have responsibilities or were never given the opportunity to own a computer, internet, or be able to attend a good school. Luckily I do live in a stable environment and will have the chance. I'm learning a ton and have skills enough already to explore some topics of interest. I have both a burning desire and a great admiration for these and innovators of all types.

I'm listening to Classical Mushroom as we speak.

I listen to a little Infected Mushroom everyday. Their music, plus Aphex Twin, are a few of the main bands I accredit leading me into searching out higher end audio.

I can say I'm more of a gadget guy then an average audiophile. Unlike an audiophile by traditional definition, I usually seek out specific unnatural sound reproduction and prefer digital.

Totally agree.
I highly regard the work Ray, Justin, Mikhail, ... are putting down in providing all these amplifiers. Would not mind having some of their knowledge.

Something I think is worth mentioning here is that the actual creation of a product, for most of us, is nowhere near as fun as the consumption of that product. The creation takes a lot of very boring work, and requires a lot of financial risk. Aside from the immense amount of time devoted to the actual knowledge and craftsmanship of these products, there is the fact that all of them needed business sense enough to turn it into something they could support themselves with. There are a good number of very skilled commercial builders on this site, like Mr. X et al, who for whatever reason have decided not to make a business out of doing this sort of work. These factors, if anything, make me more impressed with Jan, Ray, Ken, and everyone else on here supporting themselves in this fashion.

It's a difficult line of work, and I doubt any of it is very financially rewarding, but we're all grateful to have them -- grateful enough to put their kids through college.

I really think that it's 30% amp design and 70% customer service. Look at Ray he makes fantastic amps but I don't think they would be as popular here if he didn't put in the effort in customer service that he does (remember the thread about him answering a call in the shower? or the custom silver hornet?). Jan is the same way regularly posting on the forums and giving review samples. There is only one exception to this that I can think of and that's Dr. Xin his customer service isn't very good for the most part but he makes fantastic amps.
