My Siberian Husky, Kodi, just passed away. He has been part of the family for 14.5 years. I found him in his house as if he had layed down for a rest and not gotten up. We all were very attached to him. It is amazing that my son was only 8.5 years old when I brought the puppy home.

John.

I'm sorry to hear that.
I know that a dog can be a more loyal and trustful friend.

You have my feelings.

Peter.

I'm very sorry to hear that John. I know how they can become a member of the family. You and your family have the memories of a lot of good years with him. Hang in there, to you and your family.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel. My dog also passed away a few years ago. She was a gorgeous Akita, quite a big dog. She was with us since I was just a year old, so we grew up together. It was like losing a sister.

Sorry to hear of your loss, John. Dogs like yours are just as much a part of your family as any other member. You have my sympathy.

Sorry to hear of your loss John. I remember my first dog passed that way, just kind of of went to sleep. It was a Collie mix, about 12-13 years old. Cha-Cha was her name. She had seven puppies when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I remember walking to school with my Dad and the clan. We now have a 8 month old Sheltie which has turned out to be the most awesome pup. 32 years between pups same feeling.

John, I am so sorry about Kodi. I lost my cat Roscoe last September after 13 years. He had diabetes the last 2 years and I treated him with the help of folks at the Feline Diabetes Message Board. There I learned a poem about a placed called Rainbow Bridge. Thought it might help.

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Sorry, man. I, too, feel your pain. Just lost our cat, Hegel, after 17 years--got him when my son was four. Hang in there...
