I have a question about Sennheiser CX500. Do Sennheiser make any closed, over the ear headphones with equal or better sound comparable to the CX500 under $100?

By all accounts the CX500 sound could be improved upon for your money, but I haven't tried them. If it's a sound you like, that's different!

Sennheiser has a few closed backs under $100 but you don't have much choice. I thought of the HD380 PRO which is just over £100, but then remembered you specified dollars so that's too much.

There's the HD419 and HD429 but I think you might wish to consider other brands for a better choice.

Thanks, how about the Sony MDRV6?

Dunno anything about the cx500 but I have the cx475, cx300 and cx680. Based on those, I'm assuming the cx500 has a strong bass that's kinda bloated with lots of mid bass punch? If that's accurate then it won't be too hard to get better sound quality. I like both the HD429 and HD439. Both are bargains at their price. The PX-100ii is an on ear open portable that sounds even better. And the HD219 is an on ear closed can that sounds a lot like their iems with lively treble and punchy bass.

Sony V6 is also a good option. I like the ZX700 more however. Highly recommend

I'm guessing that the SE215 will maul the CX500, but you'll have to read about them and see whether the descriptions of the sound suit your requirements.

A range of opinions is what you want, as one man's meat is another man's alcoholic beverage..

The Sony V6 is almost indestructable. I had one that was 25 years old and worked fine, except that the earpads needed to be replaced. Now there are headphones with more detail that cost much less, such as the JVC HAS400. I love the sound of the HAS400. It is only around $25. For around $60 you could get the JVC HAS680, which is said to be a nice improvement over the HAS400. I haven't heard the HAS680.

PS. The HAS400 is basically on the ear, while the HAS680 is probably over the ear, although I guess it really depends on how large your ears are.

Actually I think for over the ear phones I'm going to go with Beyerdynamic DT-770. As for IEM I'm having a hard time deciding between Shure SE215 and Audio-Technica ATH-IM50.

The rha ma 750 might be another contendor. It dethroned the shure se215 on innerfidelity's wall of fame.
