I have a 19" screen, and I usually use 1024*768 resolution in windows. The text and interface is then the size I like but everything is unbearably blocky. I'd like to run windows in 1600*1200 (my screen's native res), and then "double" everything, the text, the interface, so that everything is like in 1024*768, but smoother.

Is there an option in XP or a plugin on the net that'll allow me to do this??

Wow, really? that's as small as 1600*1200 on my screen.. Doesn't that hurt your eyes in the long run??

Here's what I did:

Set the video card to run 1600x1200, then go into whatever PROGRAM you're running and change the view, zoom function to something that makes the text large enough to view properly. That will leave the icons and other things really small, but allow you to mazimize the usable space on your monitor for usable stuff!!!

Select whatever resolution you want, then change your Windows/Program font sizes

In Windows you can change font sizes as well as scroll bar and icon sizes by going into "Display Properties" "Appearance" or for all Windows font sizes, "Display Properties", "Settings", "Advanced", "General"

For Internet Explorer, you can change the font sizes by going up to "Tools", "Internet Options", "Accessibility", "Ignore font sizes specified on web pages", then back in IE, go to "View", "Text Size" and select whatever size you prefer.

I got a 19" too, and i too can do 1600, but i choose 1280x1024, mostly because everything is easily readable and i get the space i want. I can handle 1600, but it takes me a bit longer to read stuff, i got a crappy left eye and having to read small things makes me second guess a lil more than usual... stupid right eye has to compensate for left and throw my concentration off

Anyways, 1280x1024 is definately a good medium for 19 inchers imo

ROFL

My brother requested that I install winxp on my computer before I left (I hate xp, but he'll be the one using the computer so might as well). Well, it had some crazy resolutions, and I really liked the widescreen ratios, forget what the res was though.

There are different resolutions in between 1024*768 and 1600*1200, try them out, I was using 1152*864 with my 19" on win2kpro.

Two choices:

As others have said, use the native resolution, then increase the size of text and interface elements.

Or, reduce the screen resolution to a factor of your monitor's native resolution. For example, 800x600 is a native factor of 1600x1200, so it won't look blocky.

losers. I'm using 1400x1050 on a little laptop screen right now.

Windows doesn't really make things like what you're suggesting very easy to do. As far as I know, it's impossible.

I am using 1280x1024 on this 19" monitor. I did find where to change the font size and all that. It doesn't look too hard. I use the default settings with no trouble and I have trouble reading books etc with my glasses on.

I have my monitor set to 1600 x 1200. I adjusted the icon and font sizes to suit my viewing.

So I take it that your monitor

1) Is an LCD screen
2) Has crappy interpolation for non-native resolutions?

Then I would suggest you go up to 1600*1200 and then use large fonts.

If it's a CRT, I can't imagine why you want to go up to 1600*1200 unless you have a very expensive model that can go up to 1600*1200 and still look CLEAR, and with a HIGH refresh rate...

Did you have WinXP's "cleartype" turned on?
