Hi, I am new to the forum and I am here to ask a few questions regarding purchasing another headphone. Yes, I already own a M50X for about three years already. It is still working fine albeit it's rather worn now. Chance upon a HD 598SR deal(about 119 USD in my local price) and after some brief research, I found out that:

1) It's rather easy to drive (although a DAC/AMP can bring out it's potential)
2) It's open backed and it has a decent soundstage
3) It sounds better than M50X so it's an upgrade
4) It's great for FPS gaming (Apparently, my teammates can hear more things than me when I am using the M50x)
5) It's very comfortable.(Can someone who lives in tropical climate give an insight to this because the M50X is rather too warm for prolonged use)

I am using desktop on-board and phone at the moment since M50X doesn't need Dac/Amp I think. Anybody can give some opinions about this headphone or maybe even suggest alternatives? Thanks!

HD598's are great neutral cans, and the 119 USD sounds like a good price. I think you would find them a great complement to the closed M50X.

Good start, and if this is the hobby, then it will be worth your own journey.

Yea, I wanted to try open backs after years of using my M50X. I also enjoy using neutral sounding earphone(love my Gr07). Not really tight on budget but I am still a student so I tend to be careful with my purchases.

Thanks! Placed my order already and it should arrive soon haha.

Once you put the 598's on, those m50's will likely be retired :)

Yeah, they have became my daily headphones already and I am using them more frequently compared to the M50x. Really enjoy the neutral and smooth sound it produces and it's very comfortable too. The leather material and the bigger clamp force on M50x traps a lot heat so I have to stop using them after a period of time but I found no such issue with the HD598. Still find the M50x sound better on some songs and it's better for isolation so it's not going to completely retire haha, but maybe I should get some velour pads to combat the comfort issues.

However, I notice a weird problem when using the HD598 with youtube. There's some random popping sounds from the left side when I watch youtube videos with it and I can't replicate the same problem with my M50x(or my speaker). Using Foobar or watching downloaded movies has completely no issues though.

I have the m50x, and I changed the pads to velour pads (brainwavz or something like that) it didnt help really. The most I can wear them comfortably is about an hour and a half, 2 hours is too much. I've stetched them out (which took forever) they still clamp firm, but not like the death grip they came with. If i try to wear them longer than 2 hours, i have to start busting out Q tips if not when i wake up the next day i will be near deaf in one ear due to wax build up. They are good cans for what they are, but i think they are more suited for a home studio environment for audio proofing, or at least something that keeps them half on and half off and lets you take breaks between uses..

My personal experience only though. I'll be selling them when i get a chance. put the money towards something else in this crack-like hobby (but really, what hobby isnt these days lol)
