Hi all, i am using revo 5.1 + foobar ASIO + E3c, listen to classical music most, sometimes pop, and generally satisified but wanna upgrade recently.

here stated in Cons (bottom) that the card can't support ASIO with coaxial out, is it true

I have no coaxial in device in hand so i have no way to test........ If no, the card does support ASIO + coaxial out, is Zhaolu a good choice?

if a new sound card is recommanded, 1212M?

Thanks.

I'd go for the 1212M. It has the same DAC chip as the top-of-the-line Zhaolu and also has balanced outputs. I own one and think that the sound quality is great. Since you like classical and pop, you'll probably appreciate the upper-register detail that is the CS4398 DAC's signature sound.

If using the Revolution 5.1 I absolutely recommend replacing or removing the signal coupling caps. This is more important than changing the opamps or using a headphone amp.

ASIO is not supported for the SPDIF output but this is not a problem as Direct Sound is bit-perfect for the DTS test under Foobar 2000.

E-MU 1212m and Zhaolu "C" series use CS4398 DAC which has a different sound signature than AKM DAC in Revo. Very good detail and resolution but lacking in soundstage (IMO this is a common trade-off).

So you mean i can use foobar + direct sound ->SPDIF->DAC etc, to obtain bit perfect output, right? But i you guys said direct sound will route through windows kernel mixer....sth like that and finally the signal get distored?

what's IMO?...
Any recommandation other than Zhaolu?

i am still not sure which way i should go...all suggestions are welcomed

imo = in my opinion.

Zhalou is your best bet for the $$.

Azuntech is releasing a new soundcard called the Prelude soon. I am waiting on that one.
