Hello,

I just got an A&K Jr (running 1.03 firmware) and first impression on SQ has been positive but its operation seems quite quirky.  I copied part of my iTune library (mostly ripped CDs) on to it.  It seems to have difficulties with albums with multiple CDs.  I listen to classical music and in particular operas.  If an opera goes over 2 discs, it seems to jumble up the order .  Is there a way of fixing it?  The file names are organized 1-01xxxx for the first track of disk 1 and 2-01yyyy for the first track of disk 2 etc.

I can play them in the right order if I go to "folder" and play the directory.  But playing it thru "album", the order is all wrong.  Is there a way of fixing it?

Also, to much of my annoyance, it does randomly freeze a fair bit and *.png artwork simply kills the "library scan".  Is there anything I can do?

The only way I can think of is to retag all your files through a computer. You can leave your filenames as they are (01-01xxxx, 02-01yyyyy) but you'd have your track numbers incremented so that they follow from disc one to disc two. Different mp3 taggers should be able to do this. I use MediaMonkey when I have to do this.

So it would kind of look like this:
File names:
Disc - Track# Trackname
01 - 01 I. Largo
01 - 02 II. Scherzo
01 - 03 III. Vivace
02 - 01 IV. Finale
02 - 02 V. Epilogue

But the tags would actually be:

TRACK#
Title
01
I. Largo
02
II. Scherzo
03
III. Vivace
04
IV. Finale
05
V. Epilogue

In some cases it might not work and you may have to also update your disc numbers to 1 for all tracks in addition to creating incremental track numbers across the consecutive discs.
This is what I do for Sony players which have the same Album order playback issues as the JR.
For the JR to be honest I gave up on tag-playback.

I just create a playlist in MediaMonkey (Windows only as far as I know; if you're on Mac, there are probably scripts you can use to do the same in iTunes, but it's been a while since I've used iTunes). I then have MediaMonkey transfer the playlist to a folder named after the playlist. I've set up MediaMonkey to add a consecutive number at the front. So that way when I sort for example my Gotterdammerung by album in MediaMonkey, I'll create a Playlist for it; and when MediaMonkey transfers the playlist, it assigns a consecutive 3-digit number at the front of each track in the order the tracks appear in the playlist.
This way the Jr plays the folder in order regardless of whether the file names have the CD# at the beginning.
This method avoids having to retag all my albums.

Many thanks.... sounds a bit difficult and would take a long time.  Probably easiest to use the file as they are.

In any case, I'm having load of freezing problems.  Any clues?

Sorry, for the freezing... Can't think of anything. But I don't play much with the screen. Since I use long playlists, I just navigate to the folder and hit play. My interaction with the interface is pretty limited.

Thanks very much for your reply....  I downgraded to 1.02 firmware and it seems a little more stable.

Read somewhere that switching off the "power off" and "screen off" option may help stability. Did that and jury is still out.

I discover the following annoyance:

1) I connect it to the analogue input to my car and it sounds so much better than the ipod->car DAC set up I have.  But unfortunately no integrated console control.  Also when I pause the music, there's a fairly loud buzz

2) the clock in the Jr does not keep time.  It's always slow by many minutes to hours.  Anyone has the same issue?

It's a frustrating experience - I like the SQ a lot but the firmware is just SO flaky!
