Recently, I have purchased the RE0s as an upgrade from my er6is as I felt it was time to get an upgrade in sound, but I have had a hard time getting behind the RE0 sound signature. What would be a good set of IEMs that would be a "logical upgrade" from the er6is, in terms of similar sound signature?

Have you tried the different tips on the RE0? What sound signature do you prefer?

Give the RE0 some time and keep an open mind. When I first got mine I was also a little disappointed, but since I've adjusted and I think they're amazing.

Yes, I've tried all of the tips with the RE0s. I generally prefer the big bi-flange tips for listening. I have been listening to them quite a bit with an open mind, but the sound signature does nothing for me. Every time I go back to my er6is after listening to the RE0s for a bit, I automatically know I like the er6i sound signature more.

It's hard to say what I like about the er6i's, but a few qualities would be their clarity and analytical sound. The RE0s are analytical as well, but they don't quite match up to the er6i's to my ears.

if you like the er6i, then why change? imo, its not an upgrade, it will be a change of sound signature. are you looking for a change in sound sig, like more bass, more mids, more highs, etc?

Would it not be logical to go to the hf5 or er4p/s? Although stay with the RE0 and experiment with the tips. I have the RE0, hf5, and er4p/s, and while I most definitely like the etys more, the re0 is no slouch.

Thanks guys. The HF5s or ER4S seem good for my needs. What is generally more like the ER6i, except much more detailed?

Are you keeping the ER6's? If so, why not try another flavor? Higher end Westone, Shure or JH's? More of a full-range sound might be a nice change of pace.

On the other hand, OP's ears seems to be rather picky for a certain sound sig. I'd say play it safe and go with the HF5.

I'm not quite ready to change over to another sound signature just yet, as I'm in love with the Etymotic sound signature so much already. I've been reading a bit about the HF5 and the ER4-S, but still can't tell which would be better.

If you love the Ety sound, then the ER-4P is a great option. You can always get a 100 ohm impedance adapter to modify the sound to the ER-4S if you get an amp. The bass won't necessarily be in-your-face, but should be an improvement over the -6i. The highs and mids are wonderful, one of the reasons the ER-4x remains a reference IEM.

18 years and still a classic.
