I'm about to buy a second IEM since i thought the ER4S is too vulnerable and uncomfortoble to be used as mobile, and decided to use it on desktop only. Now I'm looking for a decent & robust one (I'll never be cautious; rather, I'll be quite messy while using them.) The options are:

- Crossroads MylarX3
- Future Sonics Atrio M5
- Westone UM1

Which of them would you recommend? If there's no other IEM/canal phone in the world? (btw, solidity is not the sole criteria; fidelity is prominent, too.)

Based on the 3 choices you have listed, I'm guessing you aren't looking for something that sounds like your Etys, as all 3 of those are pretty much polar opposites to the ER-4

Based on build alone, I would pick the UM1. It's cable may look flimsy, but it's actually quite tough and resists tangles. The Atrio M5 is also quite sturdy, and beats all 3 in the SQ department.

The price difference is quite big b/w them, how much are you willing to pay for a portable unit? I'll to say the most expensive one is probably the best sounding one, but I believe there is more than just SQ you are looking for, right? Personally, I think X3's SQ is good for its price. Maybe its isn't the best build among the three, but I certainly won't feel as sorry if I broke one since it is relatively cheap.

Of those 3, I have the x3 and the um1. Truth be told, I hardly ever use my um1's nowadays except on long trips when comfort is more important. The x3 has a much better SQ, thought poorer build and seal.
