What DAP should I get to drive Yuin PK1s without amplification? Seems like Cowon D2 is what I'm looking for, but is there a more suitable option? If an amp really does make PK1-s so much better, what small one would you suggest?

I guess unamped pk2 will be better than unamped pk1. D2 can't drive low-impedance cans properly.

In my experience the D2 is the only DAP that does a reasonable job with the PK1.

No, my portable music collection is all FLAC, so my experience with DAPs is limited to those that support FLAC: iAudio X5, Cowon D2, Trekstor Vibez and Meizu M6sl.

Would some Sony player + FiiO E3 or same amp coupled with iAudio 7 sound better than just D2 and PK1-s?

I had the same idea and it just happened that I received my FiiO E3 today and it is indeed a pretty good combination with D2 and PK1.

Yeah FiiO E3 + Yuin PK1 go pretty well

. So long as your FiiO lasts the distance... but then again they are pretty cheap to replace, so I suggest maybe ordering 2 or 3.

the only player that can drive pk1 is:

I have used the PK1s with several Ipod nano, 5.5 Ipod and a sony A818 and D2 and they are able to drive them.

Of course if you amp them they will reach a higher sound level and depending on the amp you may get more details and space.

But you can use them unamped.

I also use my Pk-1s unamped from the HO of my ipod classic 6G, with good results. Of course, they improve with an amp -- but even without an amp, I bellieve they are slightly better than the Pk-2s I bought for my wife (she never uses an amp so there was no point getting the PK-1s for her).

The PK1s are definately better then the PK2s UNAMPED. In fact I think the PK2 is just a waste of money as it totally sounds unnatural. Price does not mean quality in this case. The PK3 sounds flatout better to me then the PK2.

Arg right after i bout OK2's i herd that they sound pretty good. From what i herd on this fourm the PK1's sound bad without a amp and even a fiio. Sigh.

Grrr, I was gonna order a pair of PK2's cos I didn't want to carry an amp & LOD in my pocket. I think I will order the PK1s and try them with no amp, then order a Fiio E5 when they arrive!
