Hello all!

I just received my AudioTechnica ATH-ANC7b, AudioTechnica's noise-cancelling headphone.  Now as it turns out, it fits a bit snug on my head.

Okay, who am I kidding.  It's freaking tight.  And yes, I pulled the adjustments out to the max.  When I say tight, I mean tight on the top of my head (so not long enough) rather than too much clamping force.

A return is not an option.  So I'm wondering, can I just bend the headphone into a bit thinner, longer shape?  Now I'm somewhat hesitant to do this, because I'm not sure if the headband is metal or plastic.  However, I don't expect it to be much different from the M50, which I have seen many threads about stretching.

Thanks!

In all seriousness, how about stretching it over a book/s and leaving them overnight?

I don't know if the ANC7b would take the metal bending abuse, assuming the arms are metal.

That's actually what I'm worried about.  I realize that headphones with headbands that are plastic or carbon-fiber should be left alone.  Now I'm guessing that the headband material is about the same as the M50, of which I have no idea what it is.  Now I have found many threads about stretching out M50s, though that brings me to my second problem.  There's not a lot of clamping force on the ears, per se, but rather on the top of my head.  Would stretching it out with a book really make it longer, rather than wider?

5:30, I just got off work, and I'm a night owl. Insomnia...

I bent the ES7, ESW9, and M50s... though with the latter two, it was actually bending the headband outwards. The ES7 was the usual arm bending mod.

Nope, nothing broke. The M50 is especially built like a tank. They all felt better after.

Got it.

Now, when you bent it out, it would make the earpads clamp less to your ears, but the headband pressure at the top of you head would be the same, if not more, after bending, correct?

I'm not sensitive to headband pressure, so I couldn't tell the difference, but the ear pads certainly did clamp less. Just leaving them on the table would show the difference in that the pads would be more separated from one another. The pads on the M50's in stock form press up against one another. Post mod, they no longer touch.

Hmm, I don't think it'll be easy to make it clamp again, so make sure to do it little by little so it won't be too loose.
