Hermit has been delighting me for over 2 weeks now. IMO, when fully cooked plus ample brain burn-in, a well tuned to be lively yet non-fatiguing BA IEM implemented with BC.

Bass respond is the best among my DD hybrids IEMs. The beauty is it has the DD bass DNA. I am hearing big punchy and bouncy texture, heavy weighty bass note including the bass air and rumble when the tracks have it to be incredibly addictive. Foundation is solid here in anchoring and blending beautifully with the midrange in delivering soul in the music we music lovers crave for.

Midrange has been Aur’s trademark. Hermit is so spacious sounding and it tends to deliver holographic or atmospheric ambient when driven at higher volume on my amp. At the sweet spot, detailing and layering are TOTL. Listening to New Wave/ Mystical music including Jazz is rejuvenating my mind and my music collections. No congestion or incoherency here but harmoniously tuned blending gloriously with the rest of the FR.

Treble at the initial stage was a little grainy and messy to my ears but it had evolved articulately with progressive listening sessions.

My initial impression OOTB- Hermit behaved like a chameleon. We’re at odd at times due to inconsistency of the bass respond- impressive now and MIA on the next listening session. May be just me that needs more time to experiment, embrace, appreciate and adapt to this BA IEM as over the past 10years all my purchases were DD and hybrids. Glad that I was patience and eventually being rewarded rather than calling Nic, hey bro so sorry I need to return it….lol.

IMO, one of the most versatile and addictive BA in-ears I have heard. Jake of all trades after ample burn in. My home run for now, and I did tell Nic that I am still waiting for their flagship to close my journey in this portable hobby.

Tracks I been listening to:
Colbie Caillat Coco album punchy and bouncy bass.
Budgie for its unique bass guitar.
Daft Punk Rage Against the Machine,
ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, LedZep, Black Sabbath and Ozzie, Metallica, Megadeth, BLS, Slipknot, Tracy Chapman, Fourplay….etc..

Gears:
DX260–Furutech Ag optical coax—A2P NOS DAC—-Brise/Crystal Ref—-MK475(at times PB5/Wagnus valve pre & amp)—Kotori Epsilon cable—Hermit with Azla Xelastic tip( at times Comply T600).

Happy New Year to all.

Not hard at all. I don’t know my tech stuff, the ohms and all that. It’s just very average. N3 Ultra ought to be a good pairing. I noticed a warm source gives it even more bite.

Anybody noticed distinct “burn in” with the Hermit ?

I am not a believer in burn in generally but for the first few hours of listening with the Hermit something sounded “off” and I was concerned they would be OK but not my favourite set. No tip changes made any difference.

After a while that sense disappeared and I put it down to brain burn in. However, listening with other sets and going back to the Hermit I cannot replicate the sensation that something about them just didn’t sound natural. Changing tips still doesn’t replicate the off sound regardless of what ones I use.

Now they are wonderfully rich and enveloping with gorgeous midrange/vocals and an ability to make near any music sound good. I don’t feel I have adjusted to a sound more like the sound changed.

I know in general BA are not usually considered to require “burn in” but I have no clue about the BC drivers.

Anybody have comment in regards the above ?

Doesn’t matter what others say. Burn in is real. I even bought a device to make it easier. I burn in IEMs, cables, amps, daps. I usually leave it in there to cook for 2 about weeks.

Amps and daps are the most obvious. IEMs seem to be a crap shoot. Aur stuff change a lot. Aehta was quite a ride. First hour. You can hear it changing. I suppose planars don’t matter. While DDs, are the most obvious candidates.

I don’t know about cables. The maker of a big brand says burn it in for optimal results. The guy has been making mid to high tier cables for more than a decade now. I am sure he knows better than anyone else. I can’t hear it myself. The change is small. I am probably not sensitive enough to detect the subtleties.

Burning in the DX340. iBasso daps come
With a burn in dongle.

Here, a bunch of new cables and a Soundtiger being cooked right now.

Pity your wallet. Anyway, it’s a sign of bonding and I guess she got influenced that Hermit brings smile when in the ears…haha

I'm waiting for mine to arrive, i blame you guys for ruining my wallet :stuck_out_tongue:.
One thing i forgot to check, is the Hermit hard to drive and does it scale with better amps/DACs? I'll be pairing it with my Cayin N3Ultra.
Thanks in advance.
As mentioned by @DingDongMonster it’s easy to drive. I bet you will love it. However, try playing with the volume if you feel you are not getting your desired SQ or expected bass response mentioned in this thread. The 2 kidneys (BC) in there need some juice to nourish to its full potential.

You experiences the same mixed feeling as me. I was rolling tips, swapping amp and source including cables at the initial stage (OOTB) in getting Hermit to be more accommodating. I feel, jokingly, the 2 BC are making fun of us.

What I did next was DX260 and 220MAX taking turn baby sitting this baby over a range of genres. On the 3rd day, it had settled down and matured so much. Unbelievable. Getting connected and grooving to the music I was listening to then especially ZZ Top was pure joy. Funny why Abel name it as Hermit…should be Hercules…lol

IMO, when driven correctly or when it synergised with your gears to the sweet spot, a very authoritative IEM that is unlikely to irrigate our ears or puncture our veins but dosage of healthy sonic to our brains. Timbre and imaging across the FR my cup of tea.

My wife is in not. I get to use her Hermit for a few days. If you all happen to have Acoustune tips. Specifically the AEX70, grey colour soft ones. It seems to bring out the BC and bass slams even harder. Maybe this is why she likes the Hermit. I had to get her SS sized AEX70, because it's the smallest available.

First impressions of the Hermit ootb are very positive:

This is likely to become my favourite AüR IEM out of those I know aka have heard and still own (or have previously owned), which are the Aure, Neon Pro, Ascension and Aehta.

The Hermit has a fun and engaging tuning with a nice bass shelf. What makes it the best AüR to date - imo - are it's imaging and layering capabilities in combination with the EA Fusion 1 I use atm. The way it resolves details while maintaining a presentation of the whole picture is very musical and entertaining. Reminds me a bit of the Maven II which is my reference in that regard.
Well done AüR...
