I am sure somone has manufactured or kludged a stubby connector for the ipod... All the plugs I have found seem extend at least .75" beyond the case. Looking for a plug which is 1)stubby and 2) has leads extending toward the rear or sides versus the bottom as is typical of most plugs.

Any hints?

drilling a hole in the bottom for leads is certainly a good option, but would be great if plug itself were smaller as well. I am ordering a couple different plugs to experiment with: trim/alter plastic case with different wire route. will keep all posted. thanks for the responses!!

I hacked a connector a while back to do exactly what you are describing.
It made a nice low clearance interconnect for my ipod, and even worked for about a month!

I have ordered 3 different styles from Ridax too. I am going to try drilling out the side for a 90 degree mount. will post if it works
