I am pretty sure that I am going to purchase these phones. Any other suggestions? I have heard some good things about the 770's, are there any other phones i should take a good look at?

I'd pass on the 225 and get the 325 or 125.

The sr-225 is my favorite grado except for the the rs-2.They really improve with a flat pad like the modded grado comfys, or the sennheiser replacement pads for hd 414s, that I personally prefer. I posted a thread on those pads.They are yellow and look good with the black grados,and they only cost 4.50.Then the 225s are less bright and have even more slam and quickness.GO FOR THE 225!

I didn't see a big difference between the 125 and the 225. The 325 is the step up to me. I had the RS2 for several months but didn't like it as much as the 325. The highs on the RS2 was an annoyance to me. So I got rid of them.

a few questions.
Are the grado's with these comfy ear pads a comfortable headphone? These are phones that I will be wearing for long periods of time. How does the DT770 compare to the 225's? Any help from first hand experience would be helpful, i prefer users input to some reviewers.

If you use the sennheiser or the grado comfy pads I think they quite comfortable. Darkcloud and I clearly have different tastes. I own the 125/225 and use them daily at work. However,I have been giving up on the125s as they dont seem as refined to me as the 225s. He didnt like the rs-2s treble and thats exactly the reason they are my favorite grados. I have had the 225s since 1996 and the 125s for 5-6 months. I bought the125s because of all the feedback they were so similar to225s. They are similar, but if I could do it over I would pay extra and get another set of 225s.One point, the 225 and rs-2 are less elevated in the treble vs their counterparts looking at those headroom frequency curves(125 vs 225 and rs-2 vs rs-1).I like a less pronounced treble and I also use flatter pads that warm the phones up even more. The 125 and 325 are both a little to bright for me.If you can, borrow some and compare.
