...
I'm not a big believer in price tiers. So I think that honestly the i99, fiio fd1 and Luna could all be in the same ballpark and I wouldn't be surprised. But the idea of pure Beryllium does intrigue me to see if it's different from the coated and sprayed drivers. I'm certain that the i99 isn't worth 10x the FD1 and Luna certainly isn't worth 30x the FD1 for most people, but such is the hobby... I'm focused almost 100% on bass with i99.
That’s an interesting perspective. I don’t know why, but I never considered comparing varying price tiers, where the sound signatures have some commonality.

@mochill, thank you for this link, very helpful. I met Matthew Bond, president and designer at Tara Labs many years ago, and he is educated as a metallurgist. He told me about signal absorption/re-release by the dielectric, and how this caused subtle distortions, and by putting play time on products including cables, how this reduced such distortions.

Should I? I haven’t been following Moondrop’s latest IEMs.
The Tri Starlight is a new IEM from Tri (KBEAR). It is a tribrid, with the Sonion electret drivers, and seems to be very similar to the Shuoer EJ07. It is not confirmed if it is in fact the same rebadged IEM.

Thank you for the explanation. I hadn’t followed this brand, so I didn’t know anything about it.

Man, does the i99 eat power. They can be driven to high volumes with relative ease, however they really scale and open up when you throw a lot of power into them (driving them at 77/100 on my hiby r6 pro on high gain). Bass.... Mmmmmmmm. Would love to have a legend X or ex800st to do a comparison but it's up there with what I remember from the legend X. Bests anything in my current collection handily.

I just posted my review on the i99. It’s a keeper for me!

I looked into the Tri Starlight and it is interesting. I don’t have an IEM with the EST drivers (I had been thinking about the Solis since I really like my S8), so this may be a go. The one problem is I saw two different graphs with very different tunings, so I’m wondering which one is currently being made.
