7Hz Impressions & Discussion

has anyone tried to remove the back cover or is it even possible? if so, how does that sound?

You're talking about the circular plate on the outside of the housing? Its not possible, it and half the housing are one piece. It's a shame imo, probably my only complaint so far is that because of that the housing is larger than it needed to be. But i have small ears and value small iems.

Actually i have another complaint! These are so good, they're revealing less than stellar production or recordings rather than filling in the blanks with their own colouration! The lovely flip side of that is appreciating familiar music in a new way by finding details i had forgotten about or never heard. Haven't had anything TOTLish for a while now.

Andy Stott's Merciless album sounds amazing on these.

As others have observed, tips can change the sound of the Timeless a great deal. So far the good sounding and best fitting ones (to my large ear cavities) are the Stock black L, Sednafit and Spinfit360. Then I put on the tips that came with the Sony mh755 and surprise surprise, they sound the best I've yet tried. Many of you have this I'm sure, so give them a try.

They will get significantly more forgiving as they burn in. If I'm not mistaken, your just arrived.... They'll get much better as the hours mount.

I've had it for a couple weeks with many, many hours of listening. My impressions the other day was copy/paste from many days before I had posted it. :)

They did. Just have a few hours on them now. Hopefully my ears burn in to the shape, they're a little uncomfortable.

*Edit. I should clarify i wasn't meaning they're bad in anyway. They're amazing. After nine months on MH-750s i'm just not used to something more resolving.

I'm enjoying the smooth presentation, bass and warmth.

Judging from the picture, I think the general features of those tips match what I also found to work the best. A slightly smaller bore with a soft flexible shell gives the best balance of detail, bass, and imaging, in my experience with the Timeless. My preference is to have them a bit longer as well to fit more deeply, as the nozzle is rather short. Also because of the shorter nozzle, I found that a slightly larger outer diameter tip is required to get an adequate seal. So, don't be afraid to go up a size from your usual tips.

Another great review, thanks for sharing your impressions. I not only agree with you, but love your writing style; it's a fun read too.

That's assuming he was saying poorly produced tracks tend to hit the few annoying peaks Timeless has out of the box. I read it more as saying Timeless has more detail and resolution than whatever he's coming from, making flaws in poorly produced recordings audibly annoying -- unless it becomes less resolving with burn-in, this should not change with time.

That is where I was going, ie: anemic sounding 80s pop sounds more anemic than on the mh750, what im used to at the moment, and it's nothing to do with the timeless being anemic (meaning thin/dry/bass lacking) as they're just relaying more clearly what is there in the recording.

More resolving. More separation.

That said I was impressed with how the mh750s stack up. Not that they compete in the same league, but the parts of the signatures that overlap do pretty well against the timeless IMO.

My opinion is same as this guy. Pure planar musical enjoyment. Balanced on the zen dac works well, as does the bass button. Even better on the Zen can, and yet even better on the Matrix HPA-3B. It's seems to scale well depending on the amp that's driving it.

I can see some reviewers slightly downplaying them so they don't upset other vendors. For the most part reviews have been accurate.

Great review. I love Michael's enthusiasm. Looks like we have the same playlist too. I ALWAYS test tracks with Los Lobos! I've had mine since Sept 28, so exactly a month now and they've got at least 600 Hours on them. I've had plenty of planar IEMs and without question every planar Ive owned has benefitted from hours, burn-in, or what ever else you want to call it. They get far more refined and wider as they break-in up to around 100 hours. From 100 to 300 is quite subtle but you will notice a shift. the first 100 will bring more smoothness to the top end and they will widen and deepen. They are stunning in-ears and I agree with him they slay many earphones $1000 and below. And I agree with you, to save face, I can see some reviewers down play or at least not compare them to the other manufactuerer's product.

I don't believe the Timeless is quite as power hungry as he goes on about in the review... I am getting more than positive results being driven straight out of my WM1A. Sure it requires higher volume but nothing even approaching 70% (I do run the WM1A on high gain). And listening to it off of my laptop or Android phone with the L&P W2 dongle is really a treat.

Compared to the Tin P1 the Timeless is certainly not power hungry. I get good sound from my battery powered DAC/amps (iFi xDSD and Hidizs DH80S) which I do not with the P1. Having said that, the Timeless still 'scales' (I'm an old school audiophile, not confident with Headfi jargon) with mains powered amps.
