Are the beyer DT770's better than the grado SR80's?

Furthermore, if I decide to go with closed phones(not sure what I want until I figure out how much money is left over after my new computer), are the DT770's better in every way than the Sony MDR-V6's(I think they should be, as they are both held in high regard and the 770's are thrice as expensive)?

I found the DT770's for $75, and I'm comparing to the other two.

Lastly, could you post a link to any good deals on the either the SR80's or the V6's? I tried to find new V6's for cheap, but lowest I can find is I think $65, with most sites having replaced them with the crappy V600's. The SR80's I found for $85.

You need an amp for the dt 770, so figure that into costs.

There are supposed to be some new ones coming out. They should be pretty good. I have the A55 and it is pretty good. It has a bit of exagerated bass though. the new A500 might solve that that problem though.

I'm not sure when they will be offered though.

I have a pair of 770 pros and love them. BUT they clamp your head quite hard and aren't so good if you have a larger than average head.

you'll definately want an amp to drive them as well.

I haven't head either the V6 or SR80 though. so I can't give a comparison there.

Grado SR-80 is much better than the V6, but it is not a sealed design, so you left with the V6 and DT770. Why not add the Senn HD-280pro to your equation. Many people seems to agree that the HD-280 is slighly superior than the V6. The V6 is very efficient with excellent clarity. The low notes are excellent, the high can be a harsh, but acceptable by most of the people here. The problem lies in the midband, where the midrange seems too laidback. Oh, I also recommend the Denon ATH-D950 for your purchase. The Denon is very rare and is also better than the V6. I can't say, about the HD280pro.

Why do i have a hard time believing that the Denon can is better? I owned the 210's and 350's and the bass was bloated and lacked any treble or midrange, they sounded a hell of a lot like DJ cans. Based on some other folks comments regarding the Denon 950's, i say avoid them, their overpriced junk.

The Beyer's sound great when driven with an external amp or even through the headphone jack of a receiver. I've found my Sony D33/Cmoy/Beyer 770 rig to sound quite nice. The Beyer's have excellent extended bass, while the Sony's can sound unfocused in comparison. I've found the soundstage on the Beyer's to rival both the Grado and Sony cans, plus the midrange is magical. It also doesn't hurt that the Beyer's handle all genres of music very well. The Beyer's are a great closed headphone, i definitely recommend them.

Not quite. The V6's have more upper midrange (whereas the Beyers de-emphasize it somewhat), although it sounds quite nasty.

At $75 buy a few pairs!

I don't think the Denon 950 is that bad of a headphone. Have you heard it? I'm sure it is not up to the level of my Senn HD-580 and my Audio Technica ATH-100Ti. If you don't agree with my opinion, then fine. I also have the V6 and grado SR-80, b/f so I know where the Denon places in my line up.

I agree with you on the V600 and V900 argument, but I disagree with you on the D950. A definition of "junk" is belong to the V900, and V600. Oh, I also had both phones b/f and decided to sell them.

Ok, i think its junk because its overpriced for the performance you get out of it (does it still retail for $150+ ?). After hearing and owning several pairs of the 210's and 350's and then hearing the 7506's, there's no reason why anyone would want to own a Denon can. As far as i'm concerned, Denon cans fall into the same class as the Sony DJ line.

I don't think you see my point here. I don't just own the V6, but I also own the Denon 950, and previously own the JVC D-A990, Sony V600, Sony V900, and Grado SR-80.

I don't call Denon a "junk," b/c it is very musical and has no problem out shine the V6. Denon is an expensive cans, I agree on that point, however, it is very efficient and sounds good on every source, even from my portable Discman. I've never heard your Denon 350, so I can't comment on that. Out of the phones I've mentioned above I would rate them like this:

1)Grado SR-80
2)Denon ATH-D990 and JVC D-A990
3)Sony MDR-V6

GAP

15)sony mdr-V900
50)Sony MDR-V600.

Do I think the Denon ATH-D950 worth the price tag of 150 dollars? No!, but then, you can find them for around 120 at DJmart.com (the V6 also sell here). IMO, I think it is a good headphone and "yes" it is better than the V6, but not 2 times better.

Well, then again....how much is the 210's and 350's? I just don't think it is fair if you based your judgement from 30-40 dollars headphone.

Question: is the bass on your Denons a bit bloated or refined? Especially in the midrange, unfortunately i never got to try them out, but based on some folks remarks, they appear to have that bloated mid-bass like the 210's and 350's.
