Hello all again,

What would be a good affordable upgrade from the B&W 601 stand mounters?

I am looking to spend maximumu US$500 for them. I am not in an area where I can audition much, but listen to rock, alternative, jazz, classical.... basically all types.

Any suggesions?

Look in the gear for sale section here at head-fi for the spica tc-60 speakers. Those are very good ,especially for the price the seller is asking.

Oh, when I read the title I thought you meant BOSE 601!

I'm not familiar with your speakers. However, I had a pair of spica in the '80s, they are excellent speakers for the price. Ultimately I prefer ProAc however, but they're out of your price range I believe.
