Oh god I've just gone through the worst ever tooth experience and have, quite literally, been out of action for almost 5 days with it....... just thought I'd share.......
OK I'm sitting watching TV late on Friday night eating a bag of nuts when all of a sudden one of my bottom right molars flares up and gives me excrutiating pain....... seriously as if every nerve ending in my body was exposed through this tooth...... I hit the roof and was dancing about looking for painkillers..... absolutey agonising pain!!!!
Well, I found some aspirins and took them with a glass of cold water..... funny, whenever the cold water hit the tooth the pain subsided! I thought that was that but oh no..... 20 seconds later the pain was back again (just like a dentist hitting a nerve with his drill) so I took another mouthful of cold water and, again, the pain went away instantly only to return again 20 seconds later.
So, the only thing that would get rid of the excrutiating pain was ice cold water applied directly to the tooth..... the pain killers (and I took bundles of them had no neffect at all) My entire weekend was spent in bed with a bucket at the side of the bed and a few glasses of ice cold water.
I would swill the water around my mouth and then spit it into the bucket at the side of the bed (got rid of the pain for 30 seconds) this continued from Friday night until this morning..... swill water... spit into the bucket..... 20 seconds later, swill water... spit into the bucket.
A 60 hour marathon in bed swilling and spitting...... my left elbow is raw the amount of times I leaned over the side of the bed spitting into that bucket....... I seriously must have swilled a good 100 pints of water over the period
I called the dentist yesterday (still swilling and spitting whilst on the phone) and the soonest they could fit me in was this morning at 11am...... well, I went along this morning (swilling and spitting in the car) and raced in and demanded the dentist inject the area for starters in order that I didn't have to sit in the waiting room spitting into a bucket...... he injected the area and "WOW" RELIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before going into see him I went into the toilet to have a good look at the tooth in the mirror (looked perfectly ok) and was shocked to see my lips!!! they were all flaky and had completely dried out from this 60 hour water session and Jesus H I looked like a zombie not having eaten or slept for all this time!!!
Finally got in to the dentists chair and he suggested "antibiotics" I was pretty erm "rude" and said "I am not leaving this chair until that person is removed" well, he fires some more novocaine in and then proceeds to make a total balls up of the extraction.......... first of all I hear a loud "crack" and he informs me "that's the filling parted company with the tooth"
I'm sitting there thinking "oh ****!" next up he rams a chisel into my mouth and starts moving it about like he's stirring porridge, I'm thinking "What!!" he asks me if I'm ok I nod as if to say "yes"
He then decides to use another implement and bears down on my jaw with great force and then "crack!!" (whoops, something else has obviously gone pear shaped) he informs me that the remainder of the tooth has split into sections and he'll have to cut the gum in order that he can access them........ to cut a long story short I was in there for 1 hour solid and there are apparantly still parts of the tooth remaining that he couldn't remove but there should be "no problems" and, if there are he can "remove them at a later date"
Well, I have never had a tooth experience lasting so long and which basically caused me to remain in bed and unable to eat........ I've been asleep since 1pm this afternoon and just got up to pump some aspirins into me and change my pillow (covered in blood)........ I'm now going back to bed and aim to sleep for 2 days and 2 nights solid (still haven't eaten anything) and when I wake up on Thursday I'll hopefully have an appetite and desire to eat something.
I was hallucinating last night with the lack of sleep but the weird thing is don't really feel "tired" but I sure do look it! Isn't it amazing that, this time last night, I would have sold my soul to a dentist to get relief from the pain but now the pain has gone all I can do is critique his extraction technique and complain that he's made a bodge up of the extraction...... hell, if he'd smashed it out with a hammer last night I'd have been happy...... strange the way the mind works isn't it?
Anyways, sorry for my ramblings but there are a few guys who have PM'ed me and I just want them to know why I haven't responded........ I'm off to bed for a couple of days to sleep / recover and to flush all of the painkillers and crap out of my system....... I should be back to normal in a few days.
Normally a toothache and an extraction I take in my stride but this was one weird twilight zone torture session and it'll take me a few days to assimilate what it was all about.
All the best.
Mike.
