well, I haven't acctuality heard the 600, but I really like the 580, which my friend bought years ago, I think the "jubilee" edition.

Well anyways
I'm trying to justify the cost of the 600...

why would I want to buy the 600
when for the same price
I could go to ebay and buy a 580 and get a Clou Blue/Red for roughly the same price?

Personally I hear a pretty good difference betwen the 580's and the 600's. I find the 600's to be clearer and somewhat tighter sounding than the 580's. I attribute that to the different driver housings (metal vs plastic).

But that's me.

Stock cable vs. stock cable, I can't honestly say I heard much difference..a little, but hard to quantify. 580 + cable would make a better buy IMO but the 600 is a better (albeit slight to my ear) can to begin with. If he has the Jubilee, he basically has an HD600...carbon fiber cups and metal screens. BTW if this is in fact the case I'll buy em in a heartbeat if he's willing to sell for a humane price

If that's all you want to spend, then the 580+Clou Red will sound better overall than the 600/stock cable. I've compared the stock 580 and 600 and the 600 had slightly better bass and slightly cleaner highs. For casual listening they sound nearly identical.

I'm one of those who feels that the HD 600 are better than the HD 580, assuming you have a good system.

That said, I would easily go with HD 580 + upgraded cables over HD 600.

I would also not bother with Clou cables, and go right for the Cardas cables (or Equinox). The Clous are OK, but the Cardas and Equinox are much, much better, IMO.

What will the source and amp be?

i had both 580 and 600 at the same time to a/b, and even with terrible sources the differences were quite obvious:

600 is warmer, with better extended bass than the 580.
580 is drier and sounds somewhat more analytical than the 600, although the 600 actually resolves detail better.

i think the 600 is indeed worth the extra bucks in terms of sound quality.
