Is there any difference in how laid back these phones are in relation to each other? (Is one more forward then the other?)

The 650s seem a slight bit more laid back than the 580/600. Probably due to the slightly brighter sound of the 580/600. IMO.

I was just gonna post that I always found my HD650+Zu to be a bit more forward than my HD600+Cardas, but that that could have been due more with the cable than anything else.

Best regards,

650 are a bit more laid back. The 580's and 600's are 100% the same. I have owned all 3.

EDIT: This was stock cable. With my custom cable they were all much more forward sounding.

i would like to chime in. currently owning both the 600 & 650, i find the 600 to be very noticeably brighter than the 650. the overall sound signature is the same but the 650 seems to be more laid back on the treble and provide better bass at the same time. the 600 is a little more forward on the treble and thinner on the bass. this is just my opinion, but, i find the 600 hard to listen to for extended periods of time because the brightness really makes for a fatiguing experience, for me atleast. now, are they as bright as grado's? no, but they have a certain forward character which the 650s do not share. the 650 is probably the most relaxed phone i have ever heard as far as putting it on and never being fatigued by them.

Dano, I have the exact same thoughts, nicely written

I was using the Oehlbach cable on the HD580's and HD650's, and also tried the Cardas cable on the HD650's. In both instances, I found the HD650's to have a more relaxed midrange.

If you're thinking of vocals and midrange, the HD650 is more forward compared to the HD600/580. The treble is linear, whereas in the HD580/600 it peaks a little in the lower treble.

I have the HD-650 w/ Zu, HD-580 Jubilee, and HD-600...and to my ears, the HD-650 w/ Zu is most forward sounding phones out of the three.

LOL, opposite opinions !

I feel 650's midrange a bit forward compared to 580/600 - and those two have more perceived treble which I think came from elevated lower treble. For similar Senn house sound with more forward presentation you might want to try 595, if you haven't done so.

From my vague recollection of the 580 v 650, I'd say the 580 sounded more exciting to listen to - as said, brighter / clearer sounding. This is all relative mind... the 580's are still no Grado.
