I have almost gotten to the point of hating to listen to my vibes. But I don't want to spend the money for livewires yet. Got any recommendations for buds/iem that sound better than vibes but are $50 or less. Cheaper the better

CX300? JVC Marshmallow? Air Cushion? Zune V2 Buds?

I had the marshmellows and was happy with them. Then I got the JVC fx66 and boy what a big difference. I liked the fx66 much better. Then I got the soundmagic pl-30 and WOW they are in a much higher league than all other iem I have heard. Some members have bought the pl-30 for 20.00 new but we are not so sure they are real yet. I payed 42.00 + 10.00 shipping and waited over 2 weeks for them. Was it worth the price and wait. Yep the pl-30are the very best iem I ever had and I have had several that cost over 200.00.

Sound Quality <--> Cost ratio, you really can't go wrong with either the Marshmallow or the Air Cushion from JVC. Just be careful as both had different sound signatures.

Could you please elaborate on the different sound signatures for the Marshmellow and the Air Cushion. My son seems to have obsconded my Marshmellows. Also, how is the fit on the Air Cushions? I didn't care for the foam on the Marshmellows.

The marshmellows have a very bassy sound but for 20.00 I like them. The FX66 sound is much better with very good bass but much better highs and mids for about twice the price. The fx66 were my favorite iem and I was very happy with them untill I got the soundmagic pl-30. Oh the fx66 are so very comfortable and uase the silacon tips and are made to stay in the ears even when running. I found the fx66 to be one of the most comfortable iem that I ever used. the jvc fx66 cost 40.00 at curcuit city but on line I got them for 25.00 shipped. One great price for what you get.

Just got the Air Cushion/FX66. Listening to them now. They sound pretty damn good for $30. Using the foam tips the sound isolation is just about on par with my old E2C but sound much better. I do notice the mids seam a little recessed, nice strong bass, treble is good. I'm guessing after some burn in they will sound better. But overall they sound very clean.

One of the test tracks I use is A Perfect Circle - The Package, the drums at the start seam a little airy. Which is strange but not bad.

Oh yeah they are very comfortable. It's almost like they aren't there.

Yeah these will hold me over till I'm ready to plunk down the cash for Livewires
(and now I feel even more stupid for buying the Vibes 2 years ago)

The Air Cushions (to my ears) are milder on the bass side and have slightly less sparkly treble. Personally I find them to have a much better SS to the Marshmallows and also find them much more comfortable because you get 4 different sets of ear tips for them, the foams and small, medium and large silicone tips. I still use the Marshmallows when I'm out mowing the lawn or something like that, but prefer the Air Cushions when walking around or flying.
