What would be a good 5.1 system for under $500? I was looking at Polk, but am not too sure.

Does that include an amp? If so, I can't think of any "good" system.

Under $500, these provide nice build quality and solid sound performance. Also they're wife-friendly in terms of home decor design.
You might also consider Energy Take 5.2 series.
