I was wondering wich should give me a better sound quality:
4G imod -> DIY amp -> AKG K400 or
Iriver H140 (optical out) -> mini TDA1543 dac -> DIY amp -> AKG K400

Please tell me wich one you prefer and why.

Thanks alot already.

I use iMod4G(Apple lossless)>SR-71A or SM4>modded ESW9.
The sound is very good.

My friend use HP-140(WAV,optical out)>microDAC>iQube.
Anothe friend use HP-140(WAV,optical)>iBassoD1(DAC only)>SM4.
These sound is incredible good.
But I don't think porbable because very bulky & heavy.

For porbable,I recommend iMod.

Yes!

hp-140>DAC>Amp is bulky and heavy.
If you want very good sound , you should choose bulky and heavy system.

Both of those setups aren't really portable. They're transportable.

It doens't have to be really portable, because I'm mostly not going to use it while walking or cycling. It's more to take it with me to places and start listening there, for example to school when I got nothing to do between the lessons.

So, you think imod sounds good, H140 sounds better

The sound from H140>external DAC depends entirely on the quality of the external DAC, and has nothing to do with the H140 itself.

But mini TDA1543 isn't really high quality, right? So I would be better of with an iMod?

I don't know the TDA1543, so I can't comment on that specifically; I'm just saying that people's impressions of the D1, microDAC etc. are irrelevant.

Exactamundo. That's the beauty of the H140...it's endlessly upgradeable as better DAC's are manufactured.
