Yeah I don't have much patience lol. I think I shold get an inexpensive amp so I can compare the line outs of each fairly. The headphone amp on the Zhalou is the stock one and isn't bad but.....

I think that I bought a special deal or something b/c I got just the DAC no cable except the psu b/c I already have a decent higher end Belkin coax 1/8th to RCA PC audio cable that goes from my X-Fi into the dac. It was $195 + $4.50!!! shipping lol. Stanely sent me an email immediately saying I bet the shipping charge shocked you! lol It did.

Anyway, the low, low price and potential for greatness was too much for my thrifty ass to pass up. I am sure some of you can understand. I LOVE trying new gear.

The Beresford is a decent unit for its price, though don't expect it to be super amazing. It may be one of the better options in the $200-$250 price range, but it's not on the same level of some of the DAC's mentioned in this thread.

) The idea of using heavy duty batteries for power sounds ingriguing to me

Are you quoting from personal tests, or just shooting off a statement in the wild? Your conclusions don't match any that I can find on the net made by many people who actually have the Beresford. Keep in mind also, that I don't for one minute believe you ever listened to the MK-6. It is a new unit under the TC-7510 model number, and has only been on the market since the 1st week of August.
I have tested a couple of the different MK versions and I have yet to find a DAC below U$1000 that can match it. The Russ Andrews DAC as sold in the UK is the only one I could find that could out perform the MK2 from last year, but it only had more bass and that was it. Even the test report published in avreview on the MKII mentioned that. We all await everyone else with a TC-7510 MK6 and any other DAC who can come and dispute my personal findings.

This is why I don't buy into the Beresford stuff, there's only 2-3 people who pronounce it the best thing since sliced bread and are offended when any other opinions of it come along. The 13 page thread is 80% the same 3 people posting over and over about it, yet there's no real comparisons between other DAC's (though some have said it's about the same as the DAC-AH). Besides the 2-3 people saying it's the best thing to ever hit the market, everyone else leaves luke warm reviews about the DAC.

It's an OK DAC, it is very cheaply made, the QC is shotty, the headphone amp isn't really good, and the price lines up with what I've read minus the 2-3 posters who drool over it. It is a good unit for the money, but it can't keep up with some of the other DAC's that go for around $450.

So you are basing your opinion on because 2-3 people go on and on about the Beresford DAC and that annoys you? (I ask this because you still don't state if you've actually heard this unit.) I do not own this DAC nor never heard it myself. And though I understand your reaction to folks like Herandu who seemingly endlessly post about the Beresford, I'm not willing to pass any judgment on the unit. It would be foolish of me. Especially since I have listened to headphones that easily sound better than those twice its price. I am a firm believer in the sum of the whole can often sound greater than its parts - or cost - implies.
