Amazon 4 pin XLR to 1/4 adaptor

It may be a stupid question; I don't really know. Is this product safe? Is it actually worth it?

Mainly asking this because of the one reviews on there talking about burning up a headphone amp with it.

Definitely I do not recommend it. It's ok to use an adapter to plug balanced headphones into a regular headphone jack, but not ok to plug a regular headphone into a balanced headphone amp.

You can’t always trust all positive, even negative Amazon comments. Tying the negatives of a balance cable is a bad idea.
