Okay, so there's been a lot of work with 2D PCB board layout software here lately. But what if you could get a 3D realistic view of your board, populated, before you ever burned the board and bought the parts? This guy has created a ULP (script file) that converts Eagle board layout files to POVRay models that render like this:

So are there any ExpressPCB to Eagle convertors out there?

ExpressPCB holds their file formats as proprietary secrets, since if you could use their software and then translate the layouts to an open format (like Gerber), you could avoid using their board manufacturing service. That would kick the legs out from under their free software model.

That said, it's not terribly hard to convert a layout by hand if you know both programs. It just takes time. The META42 did spend some time as an Eagle layout. And no, I'm not going to make 3D images of it. Why bother, when I've got the real thing right here?
