I'm interested in buying these but need some guidance.....all your thoughts/exeperiences welocome.

My previous Beyers were DT770 pro 80 ohms which to me sounded great unamped with my D2 and good via the Line Out of my PC (asus D2X). I particulary enjoyed the bass and comfort of the 770s.

Which model 880 or 990 has the attributes of my old 770? I'm not in a rush to purchase a seperate amp either so I'd like a set that performs well out of an MP3 player or PC (hence 32ohms is this right or wrong).

Thanks.

As far as I'm aware there is no such thing as a 32 Ohm DT880 PRO....
I think you are talking about the Manufaktur version, which is available in 32 Ohm. The PRO version is only available in 80 and 250 Ohm. I could be wrong of course.

Well as far as bass is concerned, I think it goes like this:

DT770>DT990>DT880

The DT880 IMO, being the best value, just like the Grado SR-225 is of Grado's. The DT990 are said to be bright, the DT770 bassy. The DT880 is supposed to be a nice overall 'phone.

Shouldn't that order be like this:
DT770>DT990>DT880

I haven't heard any of them though. You also have to consider the many different versions of each and they all sound a bit different. The difference can be so big that some are even reporting the DT770 to be bass light, I'm not sure what version they bought though.

Sorry, I must have been looking at different ohm models etc, as they are all different.

you probably will or will not like the dt880(pro or premium)

if you can learn to live with adequate bass and enjoy the clarity/detail of how the song is presented, go for the dt880. Otherwise, dt990(32ohm) should make you very satisfied if you're upgrading from the 770 series.

pro(closed) will give you the isolation/more bass impact, but premium(open) just wins at about everything else and is preferred by majority of users.

Thanks for all the advice.

Helmore - I was referring to the manufactur version, I automatically assumed the 32ohm option was 'Pro', my mistake.

So I should look for closed = 'Pro' with 32 or 80ohms and 990's for a signature in the same vein as the 770's...

Holy, there is a 80oHm version of the DT990??? I was under the impression that those phones needed to be amped to sound their best..
So 80ohm would mean that they should sound just fine straight out of a "normal" 3.5mm source?

I would describe the DT990 as U-shaped. I've never heard the 770s but they definitely have more bass than the 880s.
