325i and GS 1000 Big cups

Sorry gang did not see the other thread on this topic. My only real question I did not see concerns installation. Do the cups simply roll off and the new ones roll on or are we dealing with a heating device and softening glue etc.

The pads on all grados are easily removed and interchangable. They are shaped so that they stay in place when slipped over the driver cups, but can be removed with minimal effort and no damage to the pads. No tools required whatsoever. I believe this is the case with most headphones, though the grados' pads are exceptionally easy to remove.

Yeah you can easily exchange all the types of Grado pads with eachother.

I like the GS-1000 pads a lot on the HF-1. Bass increases slightly and soundstage gets large.

Edit: Oh and they become really comfortable.

Edit2: Sorry I meant HF-1 not MS-1 (think I was mentally absent

I've read some bad things about GS-1000 pads on non-GS1000 cans though. It is believed that the pads were specifically designed for the sound signature of the GS1000 drivers (in terms of bass and soundstage, etc.) So YMMV.

Yes, you definately loose some of Grado's well-known forwardness. But on my HF-1 with GS-1000 pads, the mids are still more present than most other cans out there though. It's just that the soundstage increases a lot and the sound becomes smoother (less grainy)... it's like they have much more detail. That's probably because with their original bowls, the fat (lower) midrange swallows lots of details.

They also sound more open and full. In fact after switching back to the bowls I just can't stand them as they sound somehow dull.

In my experience, the GS1000 pads ruin the Grado mids. This however is without liberators.

I've always wanted to try the GS-1000 pads on my SR-80's to make them more comfortable, I just can't justify purchasing $45 pads for $80 headphones. I'm not sure the GS-1000 pads would make the Sr-80's that much more comfortable anyways.

They do, but the mids suffer if you don't have distancers/liberators.

You will get larger sound stage and more comfortable but the mid seems thiner and distant .
I didn't like them on my RS1's.

The Jumbo pads on the GS-1000 are hands down the most comfortable, don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

If the mids are recessed then that kind of defeats the purpose of grados. Maybe I'll try them for myself one day.
