I don't think the battery life thing is such an issue. I have yet to have problems with it. I guess if you use your player most of every day, it'd be a problem, but I'm a casual user, 2-3 times/day and I have no problem with battery.
It's up to you. Here's a few questions:
Is it important for you to have a clock?
How is your music organized? Do you already use itunes?
How much music do you have?
Do you have videos?
What format is your music in?
Do you want/need an FM radio?
Do you expect/want 1,000 accessories for it?
Download the Zune program first. See if you like it. Some people do, some people don't. The program one uses their player with is a big issue. Personally, I prefer the Zune program.
Also, will you be using (or abusing) the Zune Subscription service? There's a 14 day free trial with each Zune, if you don't know what it is, look around.
If you don't want to download it to search the catalog, you can hop on over to
http://www.zune-online.com/ to check it out online, give you an idea of what's available.
How acute are your ears? Do you expect/want everything in lossless format?
Are you aware that there is a WM losless format?
How are you planning on using your player? With/without a headphone amp?
How pressing is your query? Can you wait for the (possible) new Zunes? Prices may drop even lower.
Just a few things to consider.
I have my Zune, I love my Zune. It feels solid, and it's got good SQ right out of the box. Better with great headphones and a nice amp. Worlds better.
