hi all,

say if you are able to get either the 30G Ipod or IHP-100 for about the same price, both new.

which would you prefer? why?

i am undecided...

30G Ipod:
- larger capacity of course (3 times)
problem is i read about lots of interfacing problem for the Win version via USB 2........is this true?

IHP-100:
-only 10G
but got very nice remote control and FM receiver........

any advise are welcome....

thanks........

I guess you would have to look at the how much space you require. If you need more than 10 gig the iPod would probably be the better choice. If 10 gig is fine then I think the iRiver is probably a no brainer.

My personal dilemma lies more between the ZenNX and iRiver. The iRiver has an abundance of features and nifty remote but I don't know if I could live with the 10 gig capacity, sound quality may not be quite as good as the ZenNX and it's quite a bit more of an expense. The ZenNX on the other hand is much cheaper, larger capacity and reportedly has better sound quality. It's biggest downside for me is it isn't drag&drop it also appears like there is no remote available (or if one does come along it will be expensive), it's a bit bigger and reports that the interface is clunkier to use and problems with the included software.

10 gigs is really not a lot of space. You'll be lucky to fit 100 CDs encoded at 192kbits onto it.

The iRiver iHP-100 certainly has more features overall, but the Zen NX has 3 times the storage space, superior sound (Creative mp3 players tend to have some of the best sound output) and a removeable battery. Unless you need all the extra bells and whistles that the iHP-100 has to offer, the Zen NX is certainly tremendous value for the money!

When it comes down to it.. it's the size that counts

I don't see why you would be using the FM receiver all that much, when you got GB's of music to carry with you, and most radio station suck anyway. Remote is a minor detail, because it's not that much more work to get the iPod out of your pocket and press a button.

If you're on the way to becoming an audiophile (ever, maybe.. one day).. you'll be fast to realise that regardless of the audio codec (MP3 compressed with LAME, or AAC).. they won't be good enough. With good equipments, you'll find flaws in compressed audio very, very identifiable.

Then you have the option of using uncompressed WAV files with your portable player... At which point, you'll realize you needed 30GB...

With my 15GB 3rd gen iPod.. it holds about 300 songs in uncompressed WAV... it's more than enough for me.. but may not be enough if you're used to having 1,000 MP3 files.

...or just wait another few weeks and get iHP150, which is a 15G version of the iHP100. Rummour has it that before the end of the year there will be also iHP200, i.e. 20G version of the above.
IMO with the features available the 20G version will be the the most comprehensive HD/mp3 player out there. I just hope that it will be competitively priced as well.

15 GB IHP-115 is already in koran market.

It is some more expansive than IHP-100.

(The cheapeast price I found was 49,000 korean won.

it would be apploximately 400 USD)

I think you will find it soon in US market, too.
