Wow. Weird to come to this. After spending all kinds of $$ my current headphone/speaker rig cost me $80. I am serious. The funnier thing is that most of you would be ok with it's sound lol.

I was given my Sony 1000ESD Pre (circa 1991), I found and fixed my ADS L420 speakers, I bought/traded for my T-Amp 2 and bought my Koss SB40 cans.

The source is my pc onboard digital out which the Sony does a good job of warming up for the otherwise bright-ish ADS L420/T-AMP 2 combo.

Now for music it is fine and good. Pretty nice overall sound if a bit lacking in the amount of detail compared to my Ori Dac.

For gaming and music, the main focus of this setup, it really owns. I could and have spent many times more and only really received a small, if noticeable upgrade.

Strange days indeed.

Team budget!

You usually don't get much sound quality for $80 these days.

nice. i spent 140 on my set up. 80 for a 1970s Marantz 1060, which is a gorgeous analog 30wpc integrated amp and 60 for Polk R150 bookshelves from Fry's. The amp is amazing, and doubles for headphone duty, and the speakers can't be beat by anything else new. So i guess i have 30 years+ in my stereo too.

$80 can only get me a tank of gas these days.

Wow! That's cool, and the best part is that you're digging it! My system cost more than that...

I was given an NAD 3020i by a friend, a QED Silver-plated copper RCA IC by another friend. I proceeded to buy a tannoy M2 and a OPPO. Total spent: $283.

And I thought I could make team budget.

the Tannoy M2 are sweet little speakers, and i own an exellent Oppo. partnered with NAD = awesome bang-for-buck.

On the contrary, I am surprised that the ADS' sound good with a T-amp. IMO, my ADS need a big 'ol vintage amp to really shine. With >50wpc vintage SS they image like crazy and blow me away.

Sounds like you've got a nice system brewing though--enjoy it

Actually, they image quite well. For music, I can say they are particularly good but unforgiving at the same time. So far, Outcast's Stankonia is one of the systems favorites lol.

Now by themselves, the low end is a bit lacking. This is a known factor with the T-amp. However, I still have my TAD 12" sub for that lol. Ok, I paid $120 for the sub. Should have included that sorry.

Sonic Impact Gen 2? Do you power headphones through its headphone output or speaker output? How does its headphone output sound?

That's awesome. I'm loving my NAD C320BEE. Do you use the phono stage? If so, how is it?

I use the headphone amp from my Pre-amp. The T-amp is good for speakers but only ok for headphones.

Really, really good for speakers though. It has my ADS L420s sounding like 701s kinda lol. Very fast sound.

Getting some Lambda Pro Stax next week so I might just wet my pants. Worth it though. I used to have Lambda normal bias and loved them.
