No internal battery and 5V / 500-mA bus power only, just good for mobile and definitely not portable? They also provided drivers for OS X so that could mean no love for both Android and iOS devices. Basically our choices our limited to 7-inch Windows 8.1 tablets or those battery-powered, pocket-sized Windows 8.1 portable PCs from China

Looks like this units a good for laptop for Djing, I'm a bit disappointed with those external sound cards, even his big brother have this mini USB.
I don't understand Roland, why not to go with USB 3 or the thunderbolt connection? I mean you guys looking for battery and to connect it to the iphone and I'm looking to work with this unit in my studio with a minimum latency under 1sec.

Edit, do you guys know what is the opamp under the hood?

If I'm reading things correctly at Roland's website (specifically in the owner manual for the Mobile UA), it appears that volume control is done in the digital domain, correct?

A member in the Deals thread said this doesn't support flac is this true?

That doesn't make sense to me unless I am just missing something.... FLAC is just a file format with compression (lossless in this case), and ultimately it gets decoded by the host computer into PCM as I understand it, then sent to the DAC.  It's not like a DAC has to understand FLAC at all in any case.

That's why I asked him to explain himself.  Doesn't make sense to me either.

Looks like with the latest update you can use balanced headphones.

Wow, thanks for the tip -- I didn't realize that... just checked out the manual from Roland and saw that, how cool!  This will be the first DAC/amp I'll have with that capability.

Doesn't specify MP3 either. Just ordered one (after seeing the post about balanced mode).

I have a lot of WAV files but don't wish to convert others just for playback on this.
