Hi guys,

How many of you would be interested in meeting up in Scotland??
biggrin.gif
We've had one previously (Nov. 06) and it was fabulous. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have caught the electrostatic bug as badly as I have now
evil_smiley.gif

Details will be finalised, but Duggeh and I have agreed that June would be the best time as we both have finals to revise for. Also, it may very well happen at Duggeh's in St Andrews. Numbers will be limited due to Duggeh's room constraints, however we will try and accommodate as many as possible! Last time, there were four of us. There was room for a couple more. If the potential turn-out is more than perhaps six, then other arrangements could be possible.

Another possible venue would be my flat in Edinburgh. I'm moving into it on 1 June, so hopefully, there'll be furniture already
tongue.gif
I reckon the living room [27'9" x 13'10" (8.46m x 4.22m)] will fit around 8 or more. There will also be an extra (possibly double) bedroom plus blow-up "waterbeds" should a couple or more wish to stay the night.

The meet is in no way limited to Scottish people. I'm not even Scottish/English for a start
tongue.gif
We're hoping to attract a good group of us for some solid listening/sharing time. The trip up from London to Edinburgh is a mere 4 hours by Virgin train and an hour by Easyjet. Edinburgh to St. Andrews is just another hour. It'll be even shorter for those of you who live further North.

If there are loads of us, then we can possibly rent/book a larger area.

Preliminary information/list subject to change:

Venue:

Duggeh's in St. Andrews
milkpowder's in Edinburgh
some other venue if numbers exceed 8 or if lots of space is needed because of gear.

Size:

4-10 Head-Fi'ers w/ limited "sleepover" space (depends on venue)

hmm...

If you use the train and Megabus, it's actually pretty fast:
Train from Saltcoats to Glasgow -> 6.15 return, 40-50min journey
Bus from Glasgow to St. Andrews -> 3.00 each way, 1 hr 15min journey

Example, board train at 9:38am, arrive at Glasgow at 10:22am
Board bus at Buchanan Bus Stn, Glasgow at 11am, arrive at Leuchars, St Andrews 12:18pm

I'm not quite sure how far the Glasgow train station is from the bus station though.

Date would be good. My exams finish on the 18th May. My parents just got me a flat which I'll be moving into around 1 June.

Possible dates for me are:

Weekend of May 27/28

June 4 onwards...

Either or any is good for me. If its going to be us two as the movers and shakers again, and its going to be at my flat, we should defo make a night of it. Crack open a good bottle of gin
wink.gif
I'd really like to have an extensive listening with the HE60. Run through my heavy LPs. You should also get a more intimate session with the O2 than you did last time. Your head is not the same shape as mine and I very much doubt that you had a good fit. Iirc, last meet I was the only person who spent a singular amount of time with one headphone continuously. That was the recabled HD600 from the Hornet when I listened to the entire of Oldfield's Crises. God that was awesome.

Congrats on the new flat btw. Where about is it located?

Sounds great
biggrin.gif
I really need to listen to the O2 properly. I wouldn't mind selling the HE60 for a pair of O2 if the latter really does sound better to my ears
biggrin.gif
The Stax sound is significantly different from the Senn sound.

The HD600/Hornet was very good indeed. However, I had a chance to compare the mildly modded HD580 and the SR-404 recently. There's just no competition; SR-404 >> HD580.

The flat is in Edinburgh near Cameron Toll (East Suffolk Park to be exact). It's quite nice and pretty darn big for just myself: 2 bedrooms w/ decent-sized living room, two toilets (1 ensuite) and kitchen. I'd be glad to host any future meets or even this one if needed. There'll also be enough space for 1-3 people to stay over should they wish
tongue.gif

I'm not much of a 'drinker', but it's never too late to start
smily_headphones1.gif
I do enjoy the occasional gin and tonic
biggrin.gif
(or do you drink it straight?)

Haha, i am much of a drinker. I enjoy both the relishing of very fine alcohol and the merry and gluttenous consumption of the less than fine.

When I make a martini, its so dry as to effectively be stragiht gin yes. But theres only 2 gins ive ever tried which I'd ever make that way. Tanquery 10 and Junipero. I have some Junipero at the minute, but a martini that dry is a very aquired taste.

If you want to have the meet in in edinbrugh I am certainly not averse. Is there any free parking nearby? Itd be cool if I could drive all my gear through, I certainly woudlnt be able to bring it on the train.

If Cid is going to be in attendence and his familiy ties are int he St Andrews area I think that would be best though.

The SR-404 will be gone from you within the day of course, I have been watching your so very well articulated ebay auction. An example to all sellers you are young skystaxer.

As for the SR-404>580. Thats something I'd have to hear myself. I had the Stax 2020 and the HD650 at the same time around a year ago now. I really was hard pressed to put a knife between them. Such an utterly awesome combination of headphones. I would gladly and readily rebuy the HD650. And earlier this month I nearly did. If we have the meet here though, Ill have my new QUAD speakers by then. Which is where the money went.
biggrin.gif

The HD580/600/650 are really good headphones. I hope that we can generate some more interest in this meet. I'd love to have some time with a pair again.

You are indeed a connoisseur

I don't know if I can take straight gin. Never tried it

Yup. Lots of free parking just outside the flat! It's really quite a nice bit of real estate

Not a problem at all. I'm just saying that I would love to host a meet should the need arise.

biggrin.gif
Lots of interest, but not enough bites! The way things are going, the SR-404 are going to sell for mere peanuts
frown.gif
I'm only looking for about £150. Oh well...
lambda.gif

About my descriptions - I can't possibly believe I wrote so much! It didn't look like a lot of words when I was typing it out in notepad

It's never too late to put in a bid
very_evil_smiley.gif
Seriously though, the SR-404 were just technically superior. That said, the HD580 will give the SR-404 a good run for their money in the same way that the SR-404 "threatens" the HE60.

So you decided to go for Quad speakers. I'm guessing you went for the electrostats?

No one's really replied. A quiet meet is nice, but I wouldn't mind hearing more gear and meeting new people!

Its not a taste for the uninitiated. I can remember seeing peoples favces at my birthday when they tasted my martini. Looked like theyd tried to swallow a lemon!

Like all eBay auctions I'm sure that itll rocket up in price in the last 30 minutes.

You clearly underestimate the articulative powers you have.

Above the lower top end price point, its all about the flavour of the sound you want, rather than the performance index.

My total savings was just enough to get a pair of fairly decent ESL63 if I was lucky. But I went for the 21L and a bunch of new music instead. Have you ever seen an L-series speaker? They have to be the more beautiful speakers availibel at any price, let along a coupel of hundred pounds.

Indeed. I may send an IC to he of the X-can mods. See if he fancies a trip back to Fife.

Itd be cool if Brit-Fiers from further afield could make it too. The UK meet seems to never happen. If there were a big UK meet organised I'd certainly be there.

You're absolutely right. House prices are ridiculous at the moment. I know a guy whose parents paid 50%+ over the "offers over" price

I have my fingers crossed
tongue.gif
Quite a few of the interested parties are audiophiles already. One of them has a mint pair of Gamma Pros
tongue.gif
Another has some sort of electret system.

Thx. Believe it or not, but English is my second language
cool.gif
I usually speak Cantonese (Chinese) to my parents.

Precisely why I think the O2 might be more my sound signature than the HE60 even though it's cheaper by a hairs width.

No I haven't seen or heard the L-series in all its glory, but I have seen it on the website. I was actually considering a pair of the stand-mounted ones (11 or 12L) if I can convince my parents to buy me a basic stereo system.
biggrin.gif
I would be very happy with some arcam CDP and integrated + the quads because I kinda miss the whole speaker presentation.

Congrats though! I think you made a good choice. Speakers are useless without music playing through them. There's quite a lot of music I would like to buy too, but I'm really strapped for cash LOL did you buy vinyl or CDs?

Yeah... The UK meets are always in London (the two that I know of). There was one in Bristol not too long ago. They're all too far away from here!
