I have read that the cord is really fragile. can there be a stronger/durable cord that can be easily bought and replaced that can be used instead of the stock ones?

What....?

it disconnects at both earcups, so if the cord is snagged or something it won't hurt anything.

how can a cord be "really fragile?" it's sort of thin i guess, but short of wire cutters i highly doubt you'll damage it under normal listening conditions....

I don't know either.... but I managed to.

One channel of mine doesn't work. When I swap the wires over the opposite channel doesn't work.

(Not that I would use them anymore anyway)

The HD212s do not have a detachable cord although the ear cup/piece itself can be removed.

Mine are having the same problem, the wiring is starting to show at the base of the ear cup after about 7-8 months of heavy use.

The 212's cord is, indeed, detachable. I had the same problem with mine - but Sennheiser's warranty service is great. Of course, when this happened to me, I took the opportunity to upgrade to a pair of AKG K271S...

no, the cord is detachable, you just need to pull pretty hard to detach them.
