Relaxed and ATH in the same breathe!!! I'll be darned, here's to hoping some one starts up a tour, if they can offer a lot of what the modded HD 800 does they might be worth while...

The story is a bit funny.

The show in HK , it was using a sony A35 as music source feeding into HA5050 head-amp (I remember it cost $8k usd) driving single-ended ADX5000. You guess what was the impression.

I somehow cannot stand the A35 (hidden behind HA5050 and plug the ADX5000 into my onkyo dp-x1 (playing Tidal offline source a Jazz piece). Woo,,, it sounds much better this time.

The second day, I bring an audiophile CD and plug the ADX5000 into a CD system with HA5050 as head-amp. Half hour before audition I came out from the HE-1 audition private room (yes the 300k pricey HE-1) with the same CD.

I listened three songs (all classical music) and compared with my impression of HE-1. The ADX5000 actually sounded quite similar to HE-1. Good relax sound stage, a lot of details, metal instruments sound real sounding. It is worth its price as short.

Sorry, but i did not read your post correctly. Are you saying this Audio Technica ADX5000 headphone sound just like the Sennhesier HE1?
So the $2000 ADX5000 is better value than the HE1 your are saying?

Later you say it's just as good as HD800.

So to sum this up.

ADX5000 sound: Very detail, big soundstage, clear, good imagining, good separation, real sounding, warm. No harshness, and no distortion. Very natural .

Am I correct on the Sound?

I think the adx5000 is definitely in same class of HD800. And it sounds like the HE-1.

The system that I listened to ADX5000 is worth approx. 13k usd.

CD player: Marantz SA-10
Head-amp : Audio-technica HA5050
HP: ADX5000

I heard it at the hifi show earlier. The amp was ha5050, and it was nice. Not that I don't want to talk about it, it's just the room wasn't noisy but it wasn't quiet enough and I don't have too much audio technica experience. I only have an ad900 and a w1000x. One thing, I asked the at staff and they said the impedance is 460 ohm. Yes, not a typo, 460. Anyone sure?

420 ohm

Wear & Comfortable:

It is very light weight. The ear cup is not too large. Wear on head feels nothing (compare to HD800)

The original single-ended cable is a bit on thin side (thinner than the T1p cable)

A2DC pin socket

Because I have after market A2DC balanced cable for iem, I tried to change its cable. It doesn't fit in. There is a groove and A2DC connector is inside the groove. My cable is too large to fit into the groove.

So we have another sounding HD800 and showing the absurdity of a 50K sound with a 2K headphone.

Slowly coming to the conclusion that any 2K headphone will be 90% or more to the HE-1. There really is no reason to ever pay 50K.

Just an impression. I don't think people will buy without audition

New AD series?! Right after I got a HD800S... Please AT don't do this to me.

Definitely subbing for this! :)
The headband design are reminisce of the big OL Sony SA series rather than the wing design of AT's Air Dynamic models.
Will this be following in line to the old classic tuning of the AD as its name suggest or will it be an up from the R70x?

I truly hope the former.

2K is hardly 90% of the he-1. I'd say the Susvara, Utopia, Lcd4, Sr009/L700, Mr speakers electrostat are 90% of it. Having heard them all. Go mrspeakers electrostat and buy a amp.

You just defeated your own argument with a $1100 L700. Thanks for proving my point.

LCD4 ? Really? Wasting money on a 5% increase from LCD3.
Susvara ? Really? Wasting money on a 3% increase from HE1000
Sr009 that cost $2500 now!!!!!

HD650 that cost $300 with a proper amp and cable will outshine the He-1 !

Sorry bud...

You failed to calculate the cost of an electrostat amplifier onto the headphone cost. Hardly proving your point!

An amp and cable, should not change your sound characteristics!
