Every year Ray Lewis or Brett Favre doesn't win the MVP is an insult to the game. I can feel a monster year coming for Lewis, and expect nothing less than the usual superhuman performance from Favre, but some pansy like Manning will probably win this year. At least Manning had to share it with McNair last year, who is one tough mother****** in the tradition of Favre.

Now there's a football fan for you! Discussing who will win the MVP before the season even begins... I've gotta hand it to ya!

I have been thinking more than usual about football because I have less classes this summer. I also think they need a lineman MVP, since behind every 2000 yard season is a monster tackle.

My money is on Randy Moss. Ray Lewis,Brett Favre and Steve McNair could be eligible for the MVP every year. I been reading some of the camp reports that say Moss is in the best shape of his carreer and that he and Culpepper spent most of the off-season hanging together just to get to know each better. They both seem to be on a mission and Randy Moss was reported to have been the first player at the Voluntary mini camps. Local reporters have been saying he is showing intensity that he never has and I think he realizes that he has to be "The Man". If Moss has the kinda season I think he's gonna have,we could be in for some great football. I can't wait.

edit: it's never too early for football

I love the Packers and Favre, but because of their receiving corps, I don't see him winning it. On the flip side, if his arm ends up being what keeps the Pack in contention or in the division lead (the NFC North looks like it'll be a tough division), that may end up helping him.

Though I'd rather see No. 4 win another title rather than another MVP... and I think he would too. ^^

And I agree... Ray Lewis really should win it... very few players have been as consistently good as he has these years. Then again, I've said that for at least 3 straight seasons.

There are several players that should be in the running for MVP (in no particular order):
  1. Clinton Portis/WAS - With Joe Gibbs now coaching the Skins and the fact that Portis is coming in with something to prove, he could have a big year. Last year he rushed for 1591 yards and the year before that he hit 1508 yards. Coach Gibbs system will suit his style. Look for Portis to pass 1650 yards this year.
  2. Tom Brady/NE - Adding Corey Dillon to an already strong team was a great move by NE. If (and that is a big if) Corey plays up to his potential, look for Brady to post strong numbers. NE is already the preseason favorite to win it all again, thanks in large part to Brady's leadership. He has been there before and has two Super Bowl rings to show for it.
  3. Ray Lewis/BAL - No doubt Lewis is a monster LB. Last year he bounced back from being injured in 2002 with a strong perforamance. He was involved in 162 tackles which translates into a lot of plays on defense. The only way he wins the MVP is if the Ravens win and the defense continues to shine.
  4. Randy Moss/MIN - Last year Moss posted career numbers (111 receptions, 1632 yards, and 17 touchdowns). With the reports out of mini camp, he is coming of age and acting like a leader. Look for Moss to surpass last years totals. If the Vikings win it will be in large part due to the Moss/Culpepper connection and the numbers will be huge.
From that list, Moss is my preseason favorite.

I think this is also a contract year for Dante Culpepper, which means that he and Randy Moss both have something to prove and play hard for. What is already a monster reciever/QB connection could become something special if both these guys come out swinging, as expected. I kinda knew Moss had new motivation last year when he threw a few outstanding blocks and really went out of his way to draw defenders on running plays. I really think this is gonna be a great NFL season.

Yep I would agree regarding Moss and Culpepper. It should be a great year for both of them provided they stay healthy.

The jury (IMHO) is still out on Owens and McNabb. I love the way Owens plays the game, but want to see what McNabb will do with this caliber of a WR. No doubt McNabb has the arm, but can he pull it all together? It remains to be seen. Brian Westbrook will also have to rush for more than 613 yards if they expect to open up the passing game.

And in my world it is ALWAYS football season!

Too early for football? That's crazy talk! (Texans season ticket holder here.)

Moss certainly has the talent to win the MVP, but I always wonder if he's too much of a head case to bank on. I don't draft him in fantasy for that reason.

Jury is totally out on how good Portis is away from Shannahan and how good he'll be in Gibbs system. You have to remember, in Denver, <insert random tailback here> goes for 1000+ yards. I'm not saying Portis isn't a great talent--I think he is--but it's too early to say how he'll mesh with a new system. Plus, the 'Skins have a terrible O-line, or at least they did last year.

Farve throws too many bad picks to get MVP with that receiving corps. Unless Green Bay wins 12 or better, no way he wins it.

McNair as MVP last year seemed right--come on, their entire offense last year was him and only above-average Mason and a bunch of no-names. He completely carried that team.

If the Patriots win 12+ games this year and Brady continues his terrific game management, he will get very serious consideration. 2 rings, many wins, no MVP? That looks funny to people and he'll get some carryover credit from last year. Wrong or not, he'll get it.

If Ray Lewis isn't hurt, he's obviously a likely candidate. However, I'm not sure how good the Ravens will be, though they should win their crappy division again.

Manning will get consideration again, I would think--no real reason to expect his numbers to fall off.

McNabb and Owens are interesting. Hard to know how that will really play out. The good news for Philly is that it is actually possible for both those guys to touch the ball on nearly every play.

How about Priest Holmes if he has another mega-TD season? If a miracle occurs and the Chargers win 9 games, what about Tomlinson--is he not the Chargers' entire offense? If the Saints get thier heads in order and win 12, what about Deuce?

Ahhhh, the possiblities. Man, I can't wait for the season...

i'm not as much into pro level football as much anymore(more into college, go Buckeyes) Any way if the eagles have a really good year with the addition of terrel owens then maybye mcnabb can be mvp. Or if the falcons have a good year and with addition of michael jenkins(buckeye alumni!!!) then mike vick could get it. Anyway there are so many possibilities as of now and for a while.

Favre led the lead in TDs last year with that subpar recieving crew, a testament to his abilities. I will always consider him the greatest quarterback ever. I agree with your sentiment, though. I'd rather see him get another Super Bowl ring than another MVP, but he deserves both.

I can't remember a season I anticipated more. Last year I was so sure the packers were going to go all the way before that ridiculous 4th and 26 B.S in Philadelphia. I almost don't even want to watch the Packers games because it seems like they lose most of the ones I tune into.
