So apparently my boyfriend has decided to stop making fun of me (got him some K81 DJs) and actually support my habit, haha. I get a late b-day present of any headphones I want up til 200 dollars! WOOOO! =D

I have the K81DJs as well (but they need fixin.. They also sound a bit muddled to me sometimes, even after I took the foams out...), so what I'm looking for is a pair of headphones with the following specs:

+CLOSED (I am constantly surrounded by noise, lol)
+STURDY (The Grado cords are my STYLE, haha)
+200 bucks or less
+Can be powered by an iPod/laptop

Know that I am a Grado fan, but I'd be into some heavier bass too. I listen to pretty much everything, Jazz, Rock, Acoustic, Classical, Hip Hop, Country, etc. etc.

I'm looking at the AKG K 271 S, but headroom seems to think they're not the best with bass...

::Sigh:: decisions, decisions..

True, not true? Any other thoughts?

thanks =)

Not so hot on the Senns, but I WAS considering the DT 250-80s...

Does anyone have any info about the AKG K 27 Ss? I've read some good things about them.. anyone own em?

I think the Senns are really worth a look. They have all your requirements and are the most Grado-like Senn out there, but with a bit more bass kick. Plus they are tough as nails and the pleather pads can be replaced with velour.

I would go with the DT-250-250 over either the 250-80 or the K271. K271 is IMO the kind of headphone that mainly sounds good when you don't have another headphone handy to compare it to. And the 250 is purported to have better SQ than the 80, and by the number it seems that it is not so much more difficult to drive. In any case the Beyers are sturdier than the AKG.

But with any of these options, you're going to want a little portable amp, I'm afraid. Do you think you can sneak in sixty-five bucks for a LDM+, at least? Otherwise maybe an Audio-Technica? But then you lose the sturdiness again.

would you consider IEMs? for isolation, portability, no amp needed i like my super fi 5 pro. not everyone's cup of tea though, also consider the shures, etys and westones

Yeah, it's time to stop being a wuss and just buy an amp, haha.. .

And yeah...... From what you say about the AKGs I'm starting to think the DT 250-250 is a good idea.. Too bad they're so ugly ;D

IEMs are unfortunately out of the question. I would step on them. I listen to headphones mainly while moving around my studio painting, using tools, and moving stuff, so thin wires = baaaaaad.

LOL!!! Yeah I'll try that! I'm sure he'll be thrilled. We'll have to live in my car for a couple of months, but it'll be ok!

I assume you are a girl...I find Grado's hot on girls, so why not more Grado's......More Grado's can't hurt.

You can always start without one and add one in later.

IME the K271s hold it's own when compared to HD600, HD595 and SR225. However, I would definitely not recommend them who wants heavier bass.
